THE SECOND POTLUCK OF THE YEAR 2012

This was the second potluck held by the afternoon teachers this year. The first was done for the Chinese New Year celebration. The main dish of the day: "nasi lemak" - rice cooked in coconut milk served with various other dishes.

The main reason was to bid farewell to two teachers who were transferred to other nearby schools as according to the District Education Department we are having extra teachers. We had no choice but to let go of Puan Zuraishah and Puan Siti Norazlianawati. Other than that, a teacher who was in the afternoon session last year was promoted to the post of Head of Department at SMK Tanjung Adang. Even though it was a bit late, Puan Zaharah Haron did not disappoint us by coming over to school.

Thanks to the people who had been here for a short time.
You are appreciated.

SPOT THE ERROR 22

(banner found somewhere in KL)

Try to spot two words spelled wrongly in the banner.

Thanks to my friend Suzanni Amin Leembruggen for snapping the picture and tagging it to me on FB. I have agents nationwide to spot the errors.

BY NOW, EVERYONE HAS ALREADY BEEN TO KOREA

Khaulah came over to school on Sunday 25th March to give me souvenirs from her travel abroad. And by now, everyone seems has gone to Korea already.

the muffins are home-made, though

another souvenir from Faiz, given to me on the 24th March

Syazwan's parents went to Korea too

Safia's take-away from Korea

from Dr. Fua'ad

I guess Korea will be one of the places for me to visit. Anybody following?

Hopefully I will have the time to showcase a few of my collectible items at home. The number is increasing by day and I wish there is a proper way to store them.

ANGKLUNG PERFORMANCE FOR "MAJLIS ANUGERAH CEMERLANG"

Angklung group with soloist Ang Zi Ting performing P. Ramlee's "Getaran Jiwa"

The first performance of a brand new angklung group as there are many new members this year. A few finished form five while some others went off to boarding schools after from three. We were trying to get Ang Zi Ting to sing with the group this time. There is still a lot of room for improvement and I hope the members of the group will give more commitment when it comes to group meetings and practice. The next performance will be for the Teacher's Day and hopefully we can put up a more entertaining show for everybody.

NEXT PRACTICE: Sunday 1st April 2012 2:00-6:00 p.m.

MOVIE REVIEW: "THE HUNGER GAMES"

This is one movie you have to watch. It was set somewhere in the future where the rich were clad in fancy costumes like Lady Gaga and discriminated the poor. The rich people chose 24 contestants from 12 districts to take part in a kind of sports and the series were watched by all on televisions, or rather screens. It was like a television reality show "Survivor" in which the contestants had to eliminate someone so at the end of it, the one left would win the game. However, in this movie, the only way you could survive was to kill the other contestants - killed or be killed. Hence, the story line was full of actions and thrills. Even though there were many CGI effects being used, I was far too immersed in the plot, hoping that the heroin would come out alive.

It was a happy ending in a way but the audience were still left in the dark as now the protagonist had to choose between the two men she loved. Will the question be answered if there is a sequel to this movie. And if there is, I hope that it will be real soon. I don't mind giving this movie 5 STARS rating, for the entertainment value as well as making me hold my breath a few times in anticipation. You should be running to the cinema now before it is too late.

WHY IT'S IMPORTANT TO LEARN A SECOND LANGUAGE

When I was in Kuala Lumpur last week, I met this Vietnamese lady at the commuter station. No, she was definitely NOT the woman in the picture above. Unfortunately she was older, and not that beautiful. Anyway, she was trying to get the direction or to ask about which train to take but there were only four w0rds that I could understand from her: (1) I (2) Vietnam (3) friend, and last but not least (4) airport. It was really difficult to explain to her and I had to use a lot of body language to get the message across. From the very few words she could utter in English, I concluded what she meant was: "I am going to the airport to meet a friend who will be arriving from Vietnam." I sure can write note expansion essay very well. So I asked her to go to the other terminal where she could take the KLIA Transit that would take her directly to the airport. However, there are two possible airports, either the KLIA or the LCCT. I prayed hard she would meet her friend at one of the airports.

There was this anecdote that I found on a poster in the commuter train which was accidentally related to the recent event. The story goes something like this. One day, a mother mouse and a baby mouse were walking along a road. Suddenly there was a cat approaching and sensing danger, the mother mouse shouted: "Woof! Woof!" Upon hearing the sounds, the cat sped away. And the mother mouse said to her baby, "Well, now you can see why it is important to learn a second language." THE END

I am thinking of including anecdotes, jokes and riddles in my blog. What say you?

LET'S DRINK OUR OWN SCHOOL'S MINERAL WATER

Somebody had to be (forced to be) the model.
Thanks Afiq :)

Suddenly I got this bottled mineral water with the school's badge and a picture of the school buildings on it. This was news but I had seen this kind of thing done by other schools before. I am not sure whether this edition will be sold to the school community on a daily basis at the school cooperation shop or will it only be given out during the school's special function. It doesn't really matter but I am sure I was among the first recipients of the first batch of the school mineral water. Congratulations!

SPM 2011 EXAMINATION RESULTS WERE OUT TODAY

The high flyers

The result for SPM examination results were announced today. Sorry I did not have the chance to share your joy and sorrow. I was somewhere else training angklung with the students as we would be having a rehearsal the very next day.

Generally, the passing percentage (based on the performance for Malay Language paper) increased from 86% - 91%. Many subjects also showed better results if compared to the previous year's exam. In terms of quality, only five people managed to score straight A's this time round. I will try to update the list ASAP.

Some people were happy, some people were sad. Please remember, this is not the ending - this is just the beginning. You still have a long way ahead of you.

To all my ex-students from SPM batch 2011, good luck in your future undertakings and do not forget me here.

ONE DAY BEFORE THE SCHOOL REOPENS

What did I do on the last day before the school starts for the second half of the term? This should be something that could be done earlier, but well... procrastination is the thief of time. However, it is better late than never, right?
