JOHOR BAHRU'S CHESS TEACHER'S [ANNUAL] BARBECUE DINNER GATHERING

my starter

15th SEPTEMBER 2019 ~ A group of teachers (and family members) who are actively involved with the Johor Bahru Chess Team and Tanjung Puteri Chess Clun gathered for a barbecue dinner at Kapten Steamboat this evening. A few group members were not able to make it this time though.

A lot of chatting and drilling/barbecuing/boiling, and eating - all happening at the same time.

We had to stop when we felt that the tummies could not take any food anymore. And the restaurant staff were already seen busy clearing up the place.

We seldom have the time to meet up and get updated so this could be one moment when almost everybody could sit together. To be able to do this once in a year is actually already an achievement. Thanks everybody for coming and thanks to the person who paid for the dinner. Till we see each oher again in the next chess competition.

A CHESS COMPETITION IN CONJUNCTION WITH TEACHER'S DAY

1 MAY 2019 ~ Tanjung Puteri Chess Club organized an open chess competition in conjunction with Teacher's Day celebration. It was held at SMK Mohd. Khalid on a public holiday i.e. Labour's Day.

The response this time was encouraging. There were three categories which were primary and secondary schools, as well as for teachers.

Six students from SMK Dato Jaafar also took part in this competition.

Four of them managed to secure top 10 spots for medals.

Congratulations to all the committee members of Tanjung Puteri Chess Club for the first programme this year. We hope that there will be more potential chess players that could be identified from this activity and hopefully we will try to organize other event later.

THE FIRST CHESS COMPETITION HELD BY TANJUNG PUTERI CHESS CLUB

A group of teachers who are attached to the Johor Bahru Schoold Chess Team have taken the initiative to form Tanjung Puteri Chess Club. This organization aims to encourage more students to take up chess and to develop chess-playing skills. The very first chess competition was held today at SMK Mohd. Khalid for two categories: primary and secondary schools. The participation was good as there were about 92 students taking part. At the same time, there was also a competition for teachers.

The tournament organized was a success considering the fact that this was the very first activity of the club. We hope that we could get more people to join in and come up with more meetings and competitions in the future.
