MY COLLECTIBLES - FRIDGE MAGNETS

One of the latest items collected are the fridge magnets. I used to have a few put on the refrigerator's door or wall but I soon found that the magnets would accumulate dust and hence, the refrigerator will get dirty. I wonder where the first batch of magnets are kept now, or have they been thrown away?

Now I am having another new batch, mostly given by friends and students or bought during my travel abroad. Some people really making this activity as a serious hobby but I am not yet at the stage. I guess it started by accident. First I just had a few and then the collection is increasing, so I have to keep them in a proper way.

As I don't want to put the magnets on the fridge anymore, I have got a small whiteboard installed on the wall so I could them properly displayed. Before this, I even put them on my computer CPU. A few have to be repaired as they could not stick on the board - the magnets are too small and could not support the weight. Let's see how much time will it take for the whole white board to be covered with fridge magnets.

VIDEO: WHERE DOES A GIRAFFE GET ITS DRINKING WATER FROM?

This was what we saw when we were in the Singapore Zoo - a giraffe drinking another giraffe's urine. Although it was not a pleasant sight, it sure had created curiosity for me to find out more. And I googled for information regarding the giraffe's strange behaviour.

There is always something new to learn from the zoo.

And here's the answer found in Wikipedia: "Male giraffes assess female fertility by tasting the female's urine to detect estrus, in a multi-step process known as the Flehmen response." If you want to know more about giraffes, click HERE.

ATTENDING AN EID ADHA OPEN HOUSE

I was invited to an open house on the third day of Eid Adha, something that is rarely done. Usually people will have open houses during Eid Fitr. It should be a good idea as most of time, too many people will be holding  open houses on the same day.

The hosts were two ex-students who were siblings, Mr. Hafizuddin and Mr. Syarifuddin. It was not my first time attending event like this at their house. And they were thoughtful enough to invite me again this time.

Thanks again Hafiz and Syarif. Don't forget to invite me for some more free "makan" [translate: eating] session. I will be there, if time permits.

MOVIE REVIEW: STOLEN

SATURDAY, 20th October ~ The last movie I watched was "Spiderman" so it was just the correct time to go to the cinema again. However, there wasn't any blockbuster available so I we had to settle for "Stolen" starring Nicholas Cage.

The storyline: (1) Four people went to rob a bank but something went wrong and one of them got caught. (2) Before surrendering to the police, Will (played by Cage) decided to burn the $10 million so he would get a lighter punishment. (3) After 8 years, he was released from prison but his other comrade was after him, thinking that he might hide the money somewhere. (4) The bad person, Lucas, then kidnapped Will's daughter and waiting for the ransom money from Will. (5) Will had no choice but to rob the bank again, and this time he stole the gold bars after burning and melting them. (6) Will handed over the gold chunks to Will, they fought when the loving father was trying to save the girl. (7) The good guy stayed alive.

I must say the movie was a bit of a disappointment. There should be at least more actions, or more drama, when a big name like Nicolas Cage was in it. Most of the time I would mind a sad ending but this movie would be more effective if the protagonist died in the end.

Thanks to Mr. Shah Erhan, Mr. Hazizul and Mr. Fairuz for the hang out session. I totally forgot to snap photographs when we were having our late dinner/supper. I will take more photos for our next outing.

PEERS' ANNUAL LUNCH IN SCHOOL

SUNDAY, 21st October ~ Today it was the PEERS' turn to organize their Annual Lunch. By the way, PEERS is the short form for "Pembimbing Rakan Sebaya" in the Malay Language (translate: Peers Guide?). Before this, the group was known as PRS, or are we still using PRS instead of PEERS? *oh it doesn't matter anyway*

It was the similar event like what we had yesterday during the Prefects' function except this time I had to deliver a speech and officiate the opening of the event. I didn't know people had to do that for an Annual Lunch but I did what I was supposed to do and I felt like a Minister of Parliament already! *vote me for the coming general election, please*

This time, two ex-PRS presidents were invited to attend the event, faces I am very familiar with. Mr. Assadiq Abd. Manap, who just finished doing his diploma in UiTM and Mr. Lim Zi Hao, who is currently studying in Form Six in English College. I guess it is high time for the school to have its formal alumni organization.

For this event, most of students again came to school in their best clothes. It would be good to give them the opportunity to dress up, once in a while. And I will not be surprised if I won't be able to recognize them at first glance.

a door gift for me *yeay!* hope it is an i-Pad
Congratulations to everyone who was directly involved in making the event a success. Don't forget to invite me again next year. :)

THE PREFECTORIAL BOARD ANNUAL LUNCH 2012

Saturday, 20th October ~ The school Prefectorial Board's Annual Lunch was here again. Lucky me, I managed to attend this year's gathering which was held at Le Grandeur Palm Resort in Senai.

I was told that there were about 180 prefects present for the event. The function started at 2:30 p.m. It was the usual ceremony with regular activities: speeches, certificates and prizes presentation, lucky draws and students' performance.

The students dressed up in their best clothes (especially the girls) for the occasion so this would be the best time to get ourselves photographed.

We had to stop by 5:00 p.m. Everybody looked happy enough and it was another moment to cherish especially for the fifth formers who will be leaving the school when December comes.

When I was in school, we had this kind of thing at the school canteen and it was special because we had satay. *sad*
