GETTING MY FIRST BOX OF MANDARIN ORANGES THIS YEAR

Chinese New Year is coming. The festive season is synonymous with mandarin oranges, the fruits that are sold almost everywhere. They are the symbol of wealth and prosperity. Giving a friend or relative oranges is like giving him/her gold.

My first box of oranges was handed over to me today by Puan Lim Swat Pay, the representative of my Chinese friends of SMK Mutiara Rini. Thanks everybody for the kind thought. Wishing all of you a happy and prosperous Chinese New Year. Gong Xi Fa Cai!

A PRE-CHINESE NEW YEAR OFFICE VISIT

Two friends/ex-colleagues from SMK Mutiara Rini came to visit me at the office today in SDJ. It was some sort of a pre-Chinese New Year short get together and Mr. LimKhin Yan and Puan Pua Yoke Ching were representing other friends from the former school I was teaching - to hand over the CNY hamper. 

That was really thoughtful of them and I was truly touched by their friendly gestures. To all my Chinese friends at SMKMR, thanks a lot for the gift, and most importantly the kind thought. Too bad they could not stay longer to gossip - I guess we need more time to chat to keep ourselves updated.

More mandarin oranges (and snacks) are arriving and that signifies the arrival of the Chinese New Year in just a few days. Let the celebration begin...

CHINESE NEW YEAR IS AROUND THE CORNER

How do you know Chinese New Year is coming? When mandarin oranges start to arrive at your doorsteps.

And people are eating mandarin oranges everywhere in school. The air in the office is filled with the pungent smell of oranges. The holiday spirit is already felt.

I just cannot wait for the long break to come in a few more days.
