BOOK REVIEW - CECILIA AHERN'S "IF YOU COULD SEE ME NOW"

Ivan was some sort of the guardian angel to Luke, a small kid. Other than Luke, there were only 2 people who could see Ivan: Luke's mother who had run away and his auntie who adopted Luke mother in a way. Then, Ivan and Elizabeth fell in love with each other but everything had to end as Elizabeth was a human while Ivan was not. The end. If this This would be the kind of story if turned into a movie, people will find too many dialogues and very little action and only one kissing scene, *yawn* unless I am made the director.

Thanks to Puan Mazzelina for lending me this book. :)

I have taken another book from the shelf already.

Other Ahern's books I have read:
(1)P.S. I Love You
(2)Where Rainbow Ends
(3)The Gift

BOOK REVIEW 16 - CECILIA AHERN'S "WHERE RAINBOW ENDS"

The problem of reading a good book is that you will abandon other work which is more important, like marking exam papers, oopss! And then there is this need to write a review of it.

I took 4 days to finish reading this novel, which is a record, and one word that can describe this novel: BRILLIANT! From the very beginning, right until the end, the story is narrated just from the characters' exchanges of scribbled short notes, letters, e-mails, telephone conversations, short message texts, greeting cards, and text of chats in online chat room. My first time reading a story written with this unique style.

The story revolves around the two main characters: Rosie and Alex, best friends since childhood but the major question that needs to be answered is: can BFF be soulmates? You have to read to find out and I can guarantee that you will be glued to the pages because the way Ahern narrated the story is comical and real, very.

I do hope that one day that this book will be turned into a movie and I will be the first one running to the cinema. And if they decide to Americanize everything, they will choose Drew Barrymore or Lisa Kudrow to play the role of Rosie.

BOOK REVIEW 15: CECILIA AHERN'S "THE GIFT"

This was the book I finished reading in Kota Bharu. My second Ahern's novel, this is actually a Christmas story. The central character, Lou [Aloysius was the full name] was an extremely busy man who was successful in his life but he was not satisfied with what he had. Isn't money is the root of all evil? He had already ignored his wife, kids and family members as he was to occupied with his work. One day, he met a beggar by the name of Gabe and amused by Gabe's talent of identifying people just by looking at their shoes, Gabe was employed as one of the staff working the mail room. He did not know that Gabe was, I think, some sort of an angel as he one day gave Lou magic pills. By taking the pills, Lou would be able to duplicate himself thus enabled him to be at two places at one time. It was a blessing in a way because he managed to make many people happy as he was needed simultaneously at the same time by different group of people. And the pills should be the gift as suggested by the title of the book.

Nevertheless, the number of pills was limited and he could not be dependent on them. When in the end, when he was involved in a very bad car accident on a Christmas eve, he took the very last pill and only had the chance to tell his family members that he had been a very bad person and he loved them all very much, before he died. Another sad ending, similar to Ahern's first novel, which made Christmas did not sound that enjoyable.

I am now already about 10% of Ahern's third book, hoping for a better ending.

BOOK REVIEW 14: CECILIA AHERN'S "P.S. I LOVE YOU"

This is one of the 3 books of a box set that I got. The story is about the protagonist, Holly, whose husband died of a brain tumour. [I thought this kind of thing only happens in Malay dramas.] Being a loving husband, before his death, he had left holly notes which had to be opened each month. So Holly's life was in a way controlled by his late husband's instructions written in the notes. Holly's life, which was surrounded by her beloved friends and family members, was narrated and she was having the problem of overcoming the grief of her husband's death. Then, in the end, when she was ready to love again, with the man he had met, everything went wrong when he decided to get back to his ex-wife. Damn! (Pardon my language) Aren't we having enough suffering and devastation in life. I was expecting a happy ending.

I better start reading her second book now, hope there is a better future ahead for everybody.
