BOOK REVIEW - NICHOLAS SPARK'S "SAFE HAVEN"

[This is the last book read for the year 2012 and I am glad that I managed to finish reading five books during the year end school holiday]

This is the story of Erin who then disguised as Katie who ran away to a remote place from his abusive policeman husband, Kevin. Katie then fell in love with Alex, a widower with two kids. Being an investigator, Kevin found Erin a.k.a Katie and he tried to kill her but did not succeed as he was too drunk to do that. The bad guy must die and it was a happy ending which should make the readers contented.

If you like something light with a bit of romance and drama, you may consider this book. I have always wanted to read Spark's writings and I will one day try to get his other novels such as "The Notebook", "A Walk to Remember" and "Message in a Bottle".

THE FIRST MEETING FOR THE NEW SCHOOL SESSION 2013

THURSDAY, 27th DECEMBER ~ The first meeting for the new school session 2013 was done today at CTL Hall, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. We liked the place so much, it was very comfortable. The session should end by 5:00 p.m. but we managed to cut it short and stopped at about 2:00 p.m.

This means school will start real soon. *sigh* I have to sleep early tonight. There is another meeting tomorrow. That's why there are no captions for the photos or any elaborate report. Good night, sleep tight.

BOOK REVIEW - BILL BROWN'S "BILLY BROWN, I'LL TELL YOUR MOTHER"

"I was a little surprised by Mr. Robinson's swearing, especially the F-word.
I'd only said it once and Mum had scrubbed my mouth out with a bar of soap."
(page 41)

This was the first book I picked from the long list of titles bought from the Big Bad Wolf sale last week and started reading when I was on the train on the way home to Johor Bahru. I was glad because I had made the right choice. The book was good and I had to put off doing other school work as I had to finish it, I just didn't care.

This book is an autobiography of someone by the name of Billy Brown. He was known as a mischievous boy living in the post World War ll era in the United Kingdom. At a very young age of 7, he started working early - either working part-timely, selling bricks or metal scraps from demolished buildings that were bombed, or doing business with people in the neighbourhood selling firewood that he managed to collect by breaking the boxes that were used to ship fruits and vegetables. He did not do well in school but he was a very successful entrepreneur as his business flourished. Despite his young age and innocent mind, his parents were disciplinarians but supportive and he was brought up with good manners and he did mind his p's and q's all the time - and I think he was the most polite boy I had ever known in history. All the money that he earned or taken away by his mother when he misbehaved was deposited in the post office savings account and was handed over to him when he turned 16, to his surprise.

There are too many good things to tell. You have to read this book then you will know why all the compliments. As for me, it reminded me of all the pleasant things that I had experienced during my childhood - how I wish I could turn back the clock. *sigh*

WINDOW OF THE WORLD, SHENZEN - PART 3

The journey to the other parts of the world  continued. If you were planning to visit this park and had the intention to explore by walking, make sure you are physically fit and also wear the right kind of shoes. There were other means of transportation in the park but they were not free.

THE UNITED STATES

HOLLAND

We came across this roller coaster ride when we saw people were queuing up. The line was short so we decided to give it a try by paying 20 yuen each. This was actually a roller coaster from the era of coal mining many years back. The carriage was made of wood, the seat was like what you would find in an old bus or train. There was no security latch that would hold you from falling out of the coaster and the only safety equipment was ONE VERY LONG safety belt that would strap across two people. The ride was scary but the people did not scream much. I was even asking Shafiq why were these people very quiet. That was the most traditional roller coaster ride I had ever experienced.

There was another coaster ride but it was not in operation on that day.

who is that on the wall?

For the more adventurous and strong one, you could try rock climbing at one spot of the park. Again, you will have to pay 20 yuen for that. Everything was charged at a flat rate here it seemed: the tram ride, the rent for putting on the colourful costumes, getting around the park on the train, going up on the lift up the Eiffel Tower, etc.

SOUTH AMERICA

 PARIS
Even though this structure was smaller from the original version, it was still considered a gigantic work of art and architecture. We went up the small lift to be on a higher level of the tower. We spent the short time there observing the scenery below and around. My main concern was when the wind was blowing strong, would the tower sway as well? *scary thought*

LONDON
 Westminster Abbey

One whole day of walking finally came to an end. It was a place worth going. Although the structures were all fake, we had enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Kudos to the people who had surely spent hours rebuilding and reconstructing the famous landmarks from all over the world.
