COLLEAGUES' MOVIE OUTING SESSION

3rd AUGUST 2019 ~ Sometimes I would be lucky when colleagues asked me out for an outing session. Do I sound miserable enough in a dramatic way? ☻

Someone wanted to catch "Fast and Furious: Hobbs and Shaw" early so I just followed, even though I was not a big fan. MY VERDICT: You wanted it fast and furious, you got it fast and furious. I personally found the movie was alright, filled with lots of actions but the ending part was a bit too illogical for me. [I later read somewhere on the net a statement mentioning the movie was a flop].

I suggested to meet up at AEON Bandar Dato Onn as there were less people on Saturday compared to other places. And the MBO movie theatre there was just recently opened at the mall so that should be a good option for us to see how things were.

Coffee and cakes at SDS Bakery concluded the outing of the day. Thanks Mr. Wan Mohd. Nazri and Ms. Salwani Ismail for the time and company, which was a rare opportunity to go outing with a younger female colleague.

BOYS' DAY OUT

I had not had the time to pamper myself for a movie treat as fasting and Eid months had made me too occupied. However, today I managed to get away from all the busy routines, even though things did not go well as we had planned earlier. I should have left school at 2:00 p.m. but the event only finished by 3.30 p.m. I drove to AEON Bukit Indah and the traffic was clear, and reached there 20 minutes later. We almost missed the screening of the movie as the time was not that suitable - or we would have to perform our Maghrib prayers.

We still chose the 5:15 p.m. slot and managed to go for our prayer once the movie ended. We even had had our coffee before and dinner right after the show.

Thanks Mr. Hamzah Hamdan [SMKTUN alumni SPM batch 2006] for the time and company. We (note the pronoun "we") still have one more set of movie tickets to redeem soon.

MEETING ANOTHER EX-STUDENT AFTER SCHOOL

20th MAY 2015 ~ A date was set with an ex-student of SMKTUN, Mr. Afham Shah, who was once an active member of Kadet Bomba and Angklung Group, after more than 3 years not seeing each other. It was just a movie marathon and a late lunch/early dinner session at Aeon Bukit Indah.

We definitely need more time to gossip (minus the time spent in the movie theatres) so hopefully there is a sequel to this meeting.

MOVIE REVIEW - "INTERSTELLAR"

"Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light."

Dylan Thomas,
"Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night"

(the poem that was found in the character's lines in the movie)

A group of scientists were sent to outer space in search of a new place for humans to live in the future. It was a place too far away, somewhere near Saturn but beyond the black hole. Everything was very technical and complicated, especially towards the end and it had to do with time-travel. It looked very illogical to me and I guess you have to understand Quantum Physics to understand the whole thing. I never like Physics in school and that was one reason I switched to language and literature.

It was a sci-fi movie that was both entertaining and educational. If you like the movie "Gravity", I bet you will like this movie too. And you get to watch Anne Hathaway acting on the big screen again.

Thanks to Mr. Lufi Afiq for the movie outing. Let's see what will be the next movie that we should watch. I hope it'll be a live theatre performance next.

BOYS' DAY OUT

29th August ~ Someone came back for his short semester break so it was a good time to meet up and hang out. It was just a movie session followed by dinner at my favourite food court, and obviously I had made a good choice. So thanks Mr. Muhammad Faiz for the short rendezvous and made me not so sad for a short while. Hope to see you again some other time. Let's plan earlier for a more extensive outing trip.

GOING WESTERN, GOING BIG

26th August 2014 ~ The original plan was ex-students visiting the teacher's house but it was changed to a meeting at Bigfood Cafe. It was alright with me and it was good in a way that I got to know a new eating place in town. Someone just came back from India for HIS semester break while the other three had also not met me for quite some time. We ordered western food which came in large servings but surprisingly we managed to gobble everything down.

It was just a brief date but gossiping was still the main agenda. We should do this more frequently and hopefully we could get some sari materials later from that someone. It was a combination of good food and good company - thanks a lot Haran, Amalina, Fatihah and Rabiatul(from SPM batch 2010). Until we meet again in the next gossiping session.

BOYS' NIGHT OUT SESSION

7th August 2014 ~ A few people were planning the outing session and fortunately, I did not have any guests coming for Eid in the evening. So it was a movie trip at KSL City and a very late supper (dinner for me) that followed suit. We could not hang out longer as I had to attend a formal meeting in school the next morning.

Thanks Huzaifah, Adam and Izzul - perhaps we could do this again later.

A MEETING AT THE MARKET

7th FEBRUARY 2014 ~ We meet regularly if not frequently. So before Aliff and Ariff go back to their campus in Terengganu and Sarawak, we decided to meet up in a market this time round - Manhattan Fish Market. I don't understand why it is called a market, it doesn't look or smell like a market after all. And we were there chaperoned by the boys' parents and younger sister. We have actually expanded the relationship from students-teacher to family friends. :)

It was only a short chat-all-you-can that lasted less than two hours but it was worth the time. Thanks Aliff and Ariff for the dinner treat and we must do this again when you come back for another semester break.

FRIDAY WAS MEET-MY-EX-STUDENTS DAY

31st January 2014 ~ It was a long weekend for everybody in conjunctions with the Chinese New Year celebration so many people were taking their time off from college or work. It is customary for Malaysians to take this opportunity to go back to their hometown, regardless of their races or ethnicity. Hence, this would be the best time to meet up with old friends, and in my case, an old teacher. I had a series of meet-my-ex-students session today and we had meetings in various places at different time.

SESSION #1

TIME: 5:00 - 5:45 PM
VENUE: Restoran Warisan Noor, Taman Universiti
People Met: ex-students from SPM batch 2012

.

SESSION #2

Time: 8:00 - 10:00 PM
Venue: Nando's Aeon Bukit Indah
People Met: ex-students from SPM batch 2008

SESSION #3

TIME: 12:30 - 2:00 AM
VENUE: Mummy R Restaurant, Taman Suria
People Met: ex-students SPM batch 2006

It did not really matter where we met or what we ate but the most important thing was the quality time spent and the catching up done. Thanks everybody for the time and for including me in one of the slots in your schedule. Hopefully we will meet again soon when opportunity knocks.

SATURDAY WAS OUTING DAY

SATURDAY, 15th DECEMBER ~ Someone asked me to eat out today so we went to AEON Bukit Indah (formerly known as Jusco) for a late lunch. At first we went to Kenny Roger's Roasters but there was no vacant seat. For the second option, we went to Nando's.

Food portion I couldn't finish
I think it would be best not to come here on weekends as there were many people and it was difficult to get a parking space. Always blame the Singaporeans.

Just a few hours after that, I had another meeting which was meant to be a movie date with two ex-students, at the same place. Although the movie only started at 8:45 p.m., we were there much earlier by 6:15 so could sit downfirst and chit-chat.

We wanted something not that heavy but the movie would take three long hours to finish so we still needed something that would prevent us from hunger. Hence, I chose Secret Recipe for the rendezvous so we could have cakes and coffee.

The cinema at Bukit Indah is the newest one in Johor Bahru and it was my first time there. The place and cinema hall looked bigger, and the seats were more comfortable but of course it was more expensive. I still don't mind going to the one nearer to my house as it is much cheaper.

And I arrived home after midnight and luckily my carriage did not turn into a pumpkin and I did not lose my glass slippers. I had enjoyed the outing tremendously but I hoped I had not grown fat after all the eating sessions.
