CHIANG KAI-SHEK MEMORIAL HALL - PART 1

After observing and admiring the huge complex, it was time to visit the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall - the huge white building. The first task was to climb up the stairs to reach the hall. After all the walking, at that time I was only thinking what had I done to put myself in such situation. It was equivalent to a 4-storey building and I was only hoping that I would get slimmer once I went back from Taipei. Actually that was not the only entrance available. There were other entrances on its sides, and visitors could take the elevators/lifts to get to the hall.

There was this gigantic statue of Chiang Kai-Shek sitting majestically while being guarded by two army officers. This so much reminded of my visit to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. a few years back, except there were no guards there.

It was almost 11:00 a.m. and people were already standing at the hall. We were waiting anxiously for the changing of guards ceremony that took place every hour. This has become one of the major attractions there.

The way the soldiers marched was different from the regular marching style. I wonder whether that was done for ceremonial or entertainment purpose. Nevertheless, it was really unique and the army officers must had been drilled for long hours for the ceremony.

A PPD OFFICER CAME TO SEE THE ST. JOHN'S AMBULANCE GIRLS MARCHING

I should not be here in the first place but I did. We were expecting an officer from the Co-curriculum Unit to visit the school as he wanted to see the St. John's Ambulance girls marching practice. I thought there would be only one person and the whole thing would last only for half an hour but I was wrong. There were three people coming and it lasted like for almost three hours.

Anyway, it was a good move by the officer which showed he was concerned of the team preparation. At the same time, he also wanted to make sure that the routine was done according to the competition format and regulation.

One of the seniors who had helped to take photographs during the marching competition had snapped individual photos of the team members. I tried to create some sort of a chart using EXCEL and I succeed.

Thanks to the photographer and I am sure a few people will get extremely jealous as they did not have this kind of thing when they were a part of the team.

KADET BOMBA MARCHING SHOW

I thought the marching activities for the Kadet Bomba boys (Fire Brigade Cadet) had already come to its end for this year but we were invited to participate in Hari Kokurikulum (Co-curricular Day) at SK Taman Universiti 4. The fifth formers were not taking part because of the coming SPM examination. Luckily the fourth formers were willing to participate even though they were in the midst of the final exam, while the for three students had nothing else to do after the PMR examination. In the end, there were 16 only boys which was almost half of the team, but the show must go on.

I guess by the end of the day everybody was happy. Hopefully we managed to demonstrate something good enough to those very young kids in primary school. Thanks for inviting!

On the 11th July, after many many years, a marching competition for Kadet Bomba (Fire Brigade Cadets) of Johor Bahru District was organized. Thank God, at last, we had the chance to display and entertain fellow cadets and teacher advisers of other schools, as well as officers from District Fire Brigade Department. After all the disappointment for this year's competition, i.e. 2nd place district level competition for non-government organization category and the worst, 3rd place for school level competition, we finally emerged the champion at last. The crowd were very impressed with our performance and continuous screams could be heard throughout the presentation.

Congratulations to all the members of the marching team. The effort has started many years back, so thank you to all the seniors who have left school but your determination and perseverance are the factors that have put the team where we are now.
