CRUISING ON SARAWAK RIVER

\

8TH SEPTEMBER 2022  ~ While walking at the Waterfront, we saw there was a boat at the jetty and spontaneously decided to take the river cruise as we had a lot of time to kill. We paid RM15 per person for the cruise on the Sarawak River.

We were joined by 2 other people, a couple of husband and wife from Kota Kinabalu.

I could not remember the name of the boat operator anymore. He was already 60 years old but still looked younger, strong and healthy.

One of the activities you should consider doing when you are in Kuching. It was worth the time and money.

THE OLD COURTHOUSE OF KUCHING

8TH NOVEMBER 2022   ~ Another historical landmark in Kuching was its Old Courthouse which was located in Waterfront area.

We were there to admire its colonial architecture. It is a wonder the old buildings seemed to be stronger and sturdier as time passed by.

Some historical facts about the building that you need to know:
The Old Courthouse (GPS: 1.55966, 110.34498) is a heritage building near the Kuching waterfront. It was built by Sir Charles Brooke, the second Rajah of Sarawak, in 1883. It was built of ironwood and embellished with Sarawak motif. At the time of its construction, it was intended as government offices and venue for state ceremonies. The Sarawak state council meetings were held here between until 1973.

The site of The Old Courthouse originally belonged to a missionary house. The structure was torn down in 1858. In its place were two other buildings, which were also demolished to make way for the Court House. A historical event took place here on 1 July, 1946, when Sir James Brooke, the third White Rajah, ceded Sarawak to Britain as a crown colony. Sarawak's first chief minister, Sir Stephen Kalong Ningkan, was also sworn in here, on 22 July, 1963.

There were actually cafes inside the building but it was too early for us to go exploring.

This spot could be a good place for people to pose and snap photos. Do come earlier in the morning when there are very few people around the area.

THE ENGLISH TEACHERS IN-HOUSE TRAINING AT R&F MALL

A short in-house training session for English teachers [of SMK Dato' Jaafar] was held at The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf located in R&F Mall. The briefing was really short but informative and we enjoyed the coffee, tea, sandwiches and cakes too.

It was my first time at this one of the brand new malls in town. There was not much to be explored there except a few eating outlets. Should be a good place to have a date without being discovered by your friends and loved ones.

TANJUNG EMAS MUAR REVISITED

26th NOVEMBER 2022 ~ I was back in Muar to attend an Aqiqah event but I was there a bit too early. So I decided to stop by at Tanjung Emas and I was at one spot where I had never explored before.

There was a long track for people to jog or brisk walk by the Muar River. There were also garden benches if visitors would just want to sit down and enjoy the scenery.

Most of the people who jogged or walked that morning were the senior citizens.

This was the other entrance/exit of the running/walking track.

Parents could take their children to the playground so they could be disconnected from their gadgets for a while.

Do not feed the monkeys. I remember seeing people came here to do just that a long time ago.

This path would take you to the other part of Tanjung Emas where you could get to the jetty and a more commercial area.

Hopefully when I come back in 2023, this project would be completed.

This is the kind of place I would love to spend my free time later when I have retired. I would have to find out if there is any similar spot in Johor Bahru.
