THE LUNCH DATE AT SEDAP CORNER

We did not meet last weekend for our regular gastronomic adventure because of the Election Day. To make up for the session, we went on a lunch date during Mr. Redzuan's lunch break. The chosen venue was Sedap Corner at Jalan Abdul Samad.

Even though the food here I would consider overpriced, there were a lot of people coming during lunch hour.

It was one short dine in session as my friend had to get back to work at 2:00 p.m. We might resume with our gastronomic adventure this weekend.

HAVING LUNCH AT SEDAP CORNER IN PLAZA ANGSANA

Sedap Corner is one restaurant that was found many years ago in Johor Bahru and is still operating, with a few branches in town. Puan Maslinda and I decided to get lunch there after we found the first restaurant in Plaza Angsana we went into had very few items in the menu.

My Chicken Chop + Rice was good and Puan Maslinda's Mee Bandung tasted much better than the one I had had for breakfast in the morning [READ HERE]. I will recommend this place to other people if they are asking me for suggestions of an eating place in town.

THE IFTAR AND MOREH SESSION OUTSIDE

   14TH MARCH 2026    ~ An Iftar [breaking fast] date was set with my regular gastronomic buddy, Mr. Redzuan. The last time we met to enjoy good food was 24 days ago, one day before Ramadhan started.

The chosen restaurant was Padi House located in Setia Eco Garden, a place that was far away from the crowd and traffic jam on a busy weekend as many people went out to shop and eat out as well. The place was dully occupied and it was a wise decision to make a reservation earlier in the afternoon.

I had been to one of its branches in Subang Jaya last year [READ HERE]. I just got to know about the existence of this restaurant in Johor Bahru recently.

We decided to get the Iftar Meal Set, and I could see many diners choosing the same option as well.

It was just a short sit-in session as we had to hurry for our series of prayers and we adjourned to the nearby Surau [as small scale community mosque].

After the Terawikh prayers, the one that are only performed in the month of Ramadhan, we then went for Moreh, the supper session specifically after the Terawikh prayers, at a Mamak called Thoufeeq in Taman Pulai Mutiara.

With just a few more days to go for fasting, that would be my last Iftar outside this year. Thanks to Mr. Redzuan for the time and company. Hopefully our gastronomic adventure will resume immediately after fasting ends.

THE GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE IN KEMAMAN

    27TH JANUARY 2026     ~ During the short reunion session with Puan Rohani Shamsuddin in Kemaman, an ex-colleague of SMK Taman Universiti, she took me for lunch at this one place before going back t Kuantan. Located in the heart of Chukai town, the restaurant was called KB Brewster.

The place was empty when we arrived but we could see many tables were already reserved for lunch. I guess the main reason was there was a promotion going on. The Chicken Chop was sold at only RM10 that afternoon.

I got to thank Puan Rohani again for the time spent. Guess I would have to stay there longer in order to explore Kemaman more in the future.

THE GATHERING BEFORE ATTENDING A WEDDING RECEPTION IN DAMANSARA

   13th SEPTEMBER 2025    ~ There was another wedding reception of a [UPM TESL] friend's child to be attended [READ HERE]. Prior to that, a dinner date was organized with a few friends at ATSKY in Damansara area.

The restaurant was located on the rooftop of a building. The open air area was crowded with diners that Saturday night.

There was a live band playing retro songs of the 80's and 90's that we knew [some of] the lyrics.

I chose Chicken Chop for dinner. The portion was huge and the taste was commendable. The only thing the restaurant needs to improve its waiter/waitress efficiency in taking food orders from the customers. They could easily get either confused or distracted with the large crowd at the same time.

I am not sure of the food prices as dinner of the evening was paid by two generous friends who were playing hosts. May Allah shower them with good health and wealth.

It was good to get to see familiar faces once in a while, instead of just chatting in the Whatsapp groups. One thing for sure, there will be more similar gatherings coming our way real soon, as there will be more wedding receptions of friends' children to be attended.
