THE 27TH DAY OF EID 1438H

21st JULY 2017 ~ I was at Dr. Azzad's [SMKTUN's SPM batch 2002] house right after "Maghrib" prayer to attend his open house for Eid at Fortune Hills. There were not many people at that time so I should have chosen the right time. His younger sister, Dr. Azaty Hamzah [SPM batch 2004] was also there and this was kind of our once a year only meeting for us.

Then I was off to Taman Universiti as I was invited to a "tahlil" and "aqiqah" ceremony hosted by Mr. Solleh [SPM batch 2006] and his family. The "aqiqah" was meant for the daughter of Mr. Zahari. There were many other ex-students who were present so the chit-chatting session dragged on and I had to force myself to leave before 11.00 p.m.

Two more days before Eid ends and I am already fatter. *sigh*

THE 26TH DAY OF EID 1438H - PART TWO

20TH JULY 2017 ~ This should be the earliest batch of SMKTUN's ex-students who came visiting this year, from SPM batch 1999. They used to be regular visitors once but disappeared for many years. However, they were making a comeback this time but were accompanied with their wives and kids. Glad they could make it this time after all these years.

THE 26TH DAY OF EID 1438H - PART ONE

The English teachers of SMK Taman Universiti, the present and the past, were gathered at Puan Aliah's house at Taman Seri Pulai Perdana on the 26th day of Eid. The quiet house was suddenly filled with gossips and laughter, which definitely was endless.

Thanks to the host for the warmth and hospitality as well as for cooking the delicious dishes for us. I am looking forward to seeing each other again in our next gathering. (attn: Miss Cheong)

THE 25TH DAY OF EID 1438H

With 5 more days to go, three ex-students of SMKTUN from SPM batch 2006 came visiting. The one who is now residing in KL was here with a mission - to hand over an invitation card.

someone's getting married real soon

I wonder whether I will be getting more visitors from this group of ex-students for Eid next year.

THE 23RD DAY OF EID 1438H

Someone was making a comeback after the long disappearance. Thanks Mr. Sharudin Mazlan, ex-SMKTUN of SPM batch 2006 who managed to visit on the last week of Eid.

THE 21ST DAY OF EID 1438H

15th JULY 2017 ~ Today I did not receive any visitors at home and went out for Eid open houses instead. The first place visited was at Taman Pulai Perdana where two siblings, both from SMK Taman Universiti, reside ~ Mr. Syafiq and Syazwan Jaini. The first is from SPM batch 2013 while the latter is still in form 5. There were quite a number of my ex-students who were also present that afternoon.

The second house I went to was at Taman Skudai Indah where an open house was held at Mr. Syazwan's residence. I guess I was on of the latecomers as I met only Mr. Zuhair from SPM batch 2014 there.

I actually went to my neighbour's open house much earlier. Too many open houses in one day is definitely not a good idea. I was happy I could attend the gathering held but I went back feeling guilty after eating too much.

ONE MORE WEEK OF EID TO GO...

THE 20TH DAY OF EID 1438H

14th JULY 2017 ~ Two SMKTUN's ex-students of SPM batch 2006 came visiting today. (The sweet lady is the fiancee to the gentleman sitting beside her). They came in a separate group as the other two bigger groups were here much earlier.  I prefer people in smaller number as I would have more space and time to talk to individual visitors.

And I am glad they still manage to keep up the Eid visiting tradition up until this day.

THE 19TH DAY OF EID 1438H

13TH JULY 2017 ~ A group of ex-students from SMKTUN's SPM batch 2010 (13 people) and 2011 (1 person) were here for their regular Eid visit. Many of them are already in the job market while others just finished their studies.

I am glad to see these people grow up into from teenage years into their early adults. One of them is already married but I am not really sure about the rest, whether they are already taken or still available. ☺☺☺

THE 18TH DAY OF EID 1438H

Someone who had disappeared for many years made a comeback this time. Thanks Mr. Muhammad Ariff Mohd Nizam, an ex-student of SMKTUN's SPM batch 2009 for coming. Looking forward to meeting you again sooner.

THE 16TH DAY OF EID 1438H

10TH JULY 2017 ~ A (small) group of male colleagues from SMK Dato' Jaafar came visiting for Eid today. One of them happened to be an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti from SPM batch 2005.

I guess we need more time to sit down and chat. Everybody seems to be always busy in school all the time until we have no time to socialize and gossip. Hoping for this to be a regular visit for many more Eids to come.

JOHOR BAHRU DISTRICT LEVEL CHESS COMPETITION 2017

5TH-6TH JULY 2017 ~ I was glad the Principal allowed me to go out for the District Level Chess Competition this year at SMK Gelang Patah. Not only I had the chance to meet old friends, but the most important thing was I also had the chance to do thing I love doing.

Congratulations to all the officers who had worked really hard throughout the tournament and I found this time the competition was organized more effectively.

(1) Registration went on smoothly. Teachers could just register the players online. People could scan the CR code for the results for each round.

(2) The school organizing had Quartermaster students were very helpful. The officers had to (help)arrange the tables and chairs themselves for many years before and after the game. The chess sets and clocks were successfully returned to the schools at the end of the session, with no case of missing equipment.

(3) The students participating were more obedient and followed instructions. We did not have to chase them out from the hall after each game because most of the time, they were eager to watch ongoing games.

(4) Accompanying teachers were more cooperative as they did not quickly get their schools' chess equipment on their own so they wanted to get home as fast as possible like last time. (Actually there were still a few who still did not follow instructions.)

SMK Mutiara Rini's Chess Team

SMK Taman Universiti's Chess Team

I was happy Sekolah Dato' Jaafar's Boys Under 15 team secured the second place, so we did not go back empty-handed. The Principal should be very happy with their achievement.
