ATTENDING TWO WEDDING RECEPTIONS FOR FOUR EX-STUDENTS

I attended two wedding receptions today which involved four ex-students of SMKTUN. There were only three pairs of brides and grooms. How could that be possible?

THE 18TH DAY OF SYAWAL 1437H

23rd JULY 2016 ~ I was invited by Mr. Assadiq Abd. Manap (ex-SMKTUN from SPM batch) to his open house at Taman Universiti. I had to be in another programme earlier but it finished early and went to his house right away. I was there at about 11:00 a.m. and was the second one to arrive. I had to make my move to another faraway place for another open house invitation.

After all the effort finding my way to Felda Tunggal, Kota Tinggi, to the family of an old friend who was a colleague in SMK Taman Universiti. That was the furthest place I have driven for an open house as long as I can remember. Puan Siti Adaniah Sarimin moved to her husband's hometown in 2015 but it was kind enough of her to invite me over to her place.

I got to meet two more people who know me, the class monitor who got married to the assistant monitor. Mr. Fairuz and Ms. Nur Nazihah are the ex-students of SMKTUN from SPM batch 2007 and are the the brother and sister-in-law of Puan Siti Adaniah. It was worth all the effort and time to get to see more people in one session.

Later in the evening, a group of  ex-SMKTUN's boys from SPM batch 2013 arrived. There was definitely a lot catching up to do as for most of them, this was like once in a year (or more) meet-the-teacher of meet-your-own-friends session. There used to be more people last time but as they grow older, it is really difficult to get people to gather at the same time.

About two more weeks to celebrate Eid. I still have a lot of cookies at home.

ATTENDING THE WEDDING RECEPTION OF MISS NURAZREN AND ISKANDAR

11th October 2015 ~ I attended a wedding reception of an ex-student of SMKTUN from SPM batch 2007, Miss Nurazren Dol, which was held in Dewan Jubli Intan in the city centre. One particular thing that I could associate her when she was in school is that she was actively involved in Taekwando activities. That is actually how people remember you, teachers and friends alike, when you were in school last time - how committed you are to any units like prefects or librarians, or to any co-curricular activities such as sports or uniform units.

The wedding was held on Sunday so I had to go after school. There were still many people in the hall even though I was there quite late. At the same time, I was not feeling that well (actually the doctor gave a medical leave for the day) but I had promised Miss Nurazren I would come,

THE 10th DAY OF EID 1436H

27th JULY 2015 ~ Puan Raja Ainurraziyah and her children who were the ex-students of SMKTUN came visiting today. Ustazah (the title given to a teacher teaching Islamic Education) is at the moment enjoying her retiring days. I had taught all the kids, either in school or in tuition class - Miss Nurul Izzah (SPM batch 2005), Mr. Izwan (SPM batch 2007), Miss Nurul Izyana (SPM batch 2009) and Mr. Izuddin (SPM batch 2012). It was indeed an honour to have almost all the family members in the house at the same time for Eid celebration.

The guests who arrived late in the evening, at about 11:00 p,m., were my ex-students from SPM batch 2006, and two of them were tagged by their wives. The group had become smaller but everything that never dampened the spirit and joy of Eid.

I am expecting more number of people who will be coming to my house next year - if you know what I mean.

THE 9th DAY OF HARI RAYA

I'm sure by now you are already tired reading my Hari Raya stories, but that is all that happened throughout the week. As for today, I had attended two wedding invitations and two Hari Raya visits. The second wedding invitation was in Pekan Nanas which happened to be behind Aliff's house, so I paid Aliff (from SPM batch 2007) and his family a visit as well - talking about killing two birds with one stone.

The next house that I went was Mr. Sabri's at Taman Pulai Flora. It could be some sort of an open house but I was there towards the end of the event so not many people were around. However, I met Puan Shirley and Puan Baderah with their families so it was still a merry get together.

I am sure that I have grown fatter by now. And one more day left of the long, long Hari Raya break.

THE 8th DAY OF HARI RAYA

So the Eid story continues. Today, I managed to pay visits to two houses. The first one was unintentional as I was there just to pick a student, Fahmi, to tag along to another house but I was invited in. Furthermore, his mother, Ustazah Zaiti Ismail, is also a colleague of mine so I had not much choice.

The second house was so far the furthest I had been to for Hari Raya. I was invited by Mr. Shavarin, the one who came to my house on the second day of Eid. I had to go to be reciprocal but that was a good break or else I would be only staying home entertaining guests.

And lastly, late in the evening, another ex-student from SPM batch 2007 came over. I was Hilmi's tuition teacher when he was in form 3 and form 5 but he was one loyal kid who visits me regularly during Hari Raya. He had to come late because he went to many houses before arriving to mine and at the same time, I was also having a group of relatives before he came. Then, his brother dropped by and joined him before they bade good night at almost 1:00 a.m.

I have to attend two wedding invitations tomorrow and most probably visit a family's friend. Two more days before I have to go back to school. I think I am already getting lazy; too much holidays is not good for you.

THE 3rd DAY OF HARI RAYA

Ariff (SPM batch 2009), Aliff (SPM batch 2007) and their family members came over today for Hari Raya visit. They were regulars and I was looking forward to seeing them. Now that Ariff and Aliff are away most of time, long holidays like this is the only time to meet up. I could even see their sister has grown bigger and taller now. Thanks a lot for coming. Well, we still owe each other an outing, so hopefully we could do that for the next semester break.
