THE BRUNCH DATE WITH EX-SCHOOLMATES AT BRICKS & BUTTER IN KUALA LUMPUR

6th JULY 2026    ~ I was in Kuala Lumpur attending a wedding reception on Sunday [READ HERE]. It was time for three good friends of SMS Muar since many years ago to hold the second meeting of the year. The first meeting happened in May in Johor Bahru [READ HERE].

This time Puan Adura Adnan introduced us to one posh restaurant in Ampang called Bricks and Butter in Linc building.

Everything about the place looked expensive to me, even the cakes and pastries that welcomed us at the entrance.

We met at 10:30 a.m. so brunch it was. We had had Northeren Indian food which consisted of mains of Briyani and flat bread.

Excellent food and awesome company of old friends, the gathering lasted for 2 hours and the meeting was adjourned to another unspecific date in the future.

THE IMPROMPTU REUNION SESSION WITH TWO KL PEOPLE

22ND MAY 2026     ~ At 4:00 p.m., Puan Adura Adnan texted in the Whatsapp group, informing the other two members of the community she was in town. The other member was coincidentally was also in Johor Bahru with her family members. A reunion session with two ex-schoolmates [of SMS Muar] was then planned and successfully executed.

We all decided to get Laksa Johor for dinner - when in Johor eat dinner like Johorians do. The chosen venue was Ruma Tengah in Kampung Melayu, the one place that I know that serves good Laksa Johor.

By the way, one of the girls managed to get her daughter to accompany so there were four people attending.

This was our very first meeting this year and it was significant as it was held in Johor Bahru for the first time ever. All this while, it had always been in Kuala Lumpur. Puan Adura Adnan and Puan Hafizah Mohd. Noor were actually born and bred here, but are now residing in the capital city.

We had to bid farewell to each other for now, and looked forward to another gathering after this.

THE OPEN HOUSE ON THE LAST DAY OF EID - PART ONE

18TH APRIL 2026    ~ An ex-schoolmate of SMS Muar, Puan Aishah, held an Eid Open House on the last day of Eid. It was also done as she will be performing her Haj [Pilgrimage] soon. The event was held at his house in Taman Laguna.

I seldom had the chance to meet up with ex-schoolmates. Today, I was again reunited with Mr. Hasmi, Mr. Mahayuddin Ma'min and Puan Minah Selamat, apart from the host.

I could not stay long as there were two more open houses to attend right after.

Wishing Puan Aishah a safe journey to and fro, and his Haj will be blessed.

THE DINNER SESSION WITH AN EX-CLASSMATE/SCHOOLMATE AND HIS FAMILY MEMBERS

Mr. Abdul Razak Sapian and his family were in town. We set a date for dinner and I thought it would be only two of us. However his wife and three children were also joining.

Mr. Abdul Razak is my classmate of Budiman class of SMS Muar, and one of the few whom I regularly see once in a while.

The venue chosen was Der'Cabin Bistro located in Taman Nusantara, which was near his [weekend] house. It must a popular eating spot as the place was jam packed with diners at 9:30 p.m. when we arrived. The specialty of Der'Cabin was western food so we had food like Chicken Chop, Fish and Chips and Mushroom Soup + Garlic Bread.

The food was good with generous portion was served. I would not mind to try other items in the menu next time.

I was glad to get to see Mr. Abdul Razak before he and his wife departed for Mecca to perform his pilgrimage in a fortnight's time. May we be able to see each other again after the pilgrimage season is over.

THE 5TH DAY OF EID 1447H

The first guests of the day were Mr. Ahmad Fadillah Mohd. Aris, my ex-Budiman classmate of SMS Muar, and his wife and two daughters. They were here for Eid and stopped by to visit me for Eid before going back home to Kepala Batas, Penang.

They were still interested to visit my backyard garden under the hot afternoon sun.

The second group that came in the afternoon was Puan Humairah Harun who was accompanied by her husband and four children. Humairah is an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti [SPM batch 2004, I think] and I taught her English when she was in Form 1 and 2.

It is always a pleasure to see old friends and ex-students once in a while, and Eid is one of the best times to get reconnected.
