VISITING RANIA NUR RAUDHAH AT PPUM

24th AUGUST 2018 ~ One of the items in my itinerary during my short getaway to Kuala Lumpur during the mid term school break was to visit Rania Nur Raudhah at Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya (Malaya University Medical Centre) . The young girl was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma Cancer and has been receiving treatment at the hospital. When I was there, she was about to undergo the fourth cycle of chemotherapy.

She was a daughter to one of my ex-students of SMKTUN. And the family is already like family friends to me.

Mr. Amirul Husni, the uncle

I was glad I got to meet with the father and other family members too when I was there.

Let's together pray Rania will be strong and get well real soon.

MY KL GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - AND FINALLY, IKEA MEATBALLS

24th AUGUST 2018 ~ The plan at first was to find an eating place where we could get spaghetti and pastries but on our way, I saw IKEA outlet nearby and quickly asked my friend who was hosting the gathering whether we could just get our lunch from there. I guess it was a brilliant choice as the car could be parked easily and the traffic on the roads was also good.

There were still many people at the food court in IKEA after 2.00 p.m. but we still managed to secure a place to sit. And finally, my dream came true - a plate of the famous IKEA meatballs right in front of my very eyes.

I will now have to go to IKEA Johor Bahru outlet to try the food there. I read people posted on social media that the meatballs in KL tasted better so I will have to see whether the statement is true or not.

To my two ex-schoolmates of SMS Muar, Puan Hafizah Mohd. Noor and Puan Adura Adnan, thanks for the time and the company, and the treat too. And also for driving me around and sending me to PPUM after that. Hopefully we could see each other again next year when someone comes home from Saudi Arabia.

MY KL GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - ASEANA CAFE KLCC

24th AUGUST 2018 ~ Another rendezvous was set in Kuala Lumpur city and this time it was with two ex-schoolmates of SMS Muar class of 1986. We were the best of friends when we were in school - sharing all the sorrows and things we detested when we were there.

We did not have lunch there, instead we tried something more local/traditional but was super expensive. We decided to go somewhere else for lunch as I thought this was just too much for me, even though everything was paid for. But the most important thing, we still had more things to talk about as this gathering would only happen (may be) once or twice in a life time.

MY HOMETOWN GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - GOING CHINESE FOR LUNCH

27th AUGUST 2018 ~ After the workshop session at SMK Mutiara Rini, the English teachers (who happened to be my ex-colleagues) and I, decided to eat out instead of the usual canteen food.

We headed to Mee Tarik Warisan Asli restaurant in Mydin Taman Mutiara Rini, going Chinese for lunch. I was glad we chose this place as a few of them had never tried the food here. I had had the famous beef noodles before at other branches though.

It was good to meet some familiar faces and do some catching up. It is not easy to set up a gathering even though there are plans to do so, and this should be considered a success. Guess we all enjoyed both the food and the company. We should do this again some other time.

VISITING THE FORM 3 STUDENTS OF SMK MUTIARA RINI

I was invited to conduct an English workshop for PT3 Examination with the form three students of SMK Mutiara Rini, the former school I was in before I moved out last year.

There was a very big crowd. I was glad I survived the two hours slot, and hoped those who were attentive would have benefited from the knowledge-sharing session.

Thanks to my ex-colleagues for inviting. Too bad I had no time to meet some of my friends there after the workshop as there was another meeting after that at another place.

MY KL GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - NASI LEMAK AT VILLAGE PARK

24th AUGUST 2018 ~ I arrived in Kuala Lumpur as early as 6:40 a.m. for a chain of gastronomic adventures with friends - ex-classmates and ex-schoolmates. Puan Sakinah Ismail and her husband, Mr. Azhar, were kind enough to fetch me at KLIA2 and take me to this restaurant in Damansara called Park Village.

Then Puan Maslinda Mohd Dahalan, another ex-coursemate of UPM TESL class of 1993, joined in the crowd at the restaurant. However, she had "lontong" instead the nasi lemak the tree of us were enjoying.

I was told that this place is always crowded every morning and people has to queue up for the seats. I think one reason is that the price of the "nasi lemak" here is very cheap as the chicken piece served is quite big and this place is located in Kuala Lumpur, and this might cost more in Johor Bahru. And I found the food was tasty, both the "nasi lemak" and the fried chicken.

It was just a very short stay in the restaurant but this was just the introduction episode. I had to meet other two friends right after at KLCC.

the shopping mall opposite the restaurant

And Puan Sakinah and Mr. Azhar sent me straight to KLCC for my next meeting. My plea to make them just send me to the nearest train station was not even taken into consideration. I would be meeting them again the next day for another gathering with more friends.

MY ONLY EID-UL ADHA HOUSE VISIT

I managed to visit someone's house to celebrate Eid Ul-Adha this year. I made another trip to Taman Nusantara, Gelang Patah, to see Puan Rokiah Junoh a.k.a Kak Kiah and her husband, Mr. Abdul Rahman. She is an ex-colleague of SMK Taman Universiti, hence her family members are no strangers to me.

Thank you Kak Kiah for accepting a visitor on Eid Ul-Adha. May your family be blessed by Allah the Almighty.
