VISITING THE HISTORICAL MUSEUM OF KUALA SELANGOR DISTRICT

4TH MAY 2024 ~ On top of the Malawati Hill, there was the Historical Museum of Kuala Selangor District. We went inside as there was nothing else to do and the entrance ticket cost RM3.00 per person [if I remembered correctly].

The museum narrated the history of the early government of Selangor up to the present time. The two things I learned from my visit were: [1] The first Sultan of Selangor originated from the Johor rulers. [2] Selangor got its name from an insect of the swamp.

It was just a small museum and we finished the tour within 30 minutes.

There were a few original cannons during the British colonial era outside the museum for people to see.

One thing the museum authority needs to do is to correct the English labels which are badly translated from Bahasa Melayu.

NEXT: The Traditional Game Museum.

SEEING LEMBAH BUJANG BUT NOT IN THE HISTORY TEXTBOOK ANYMORE

15th JULY 2023     ~ I had been to Angkor Wat in Siem Reap and Borobudur in Jogjakarta. When I saw this historic site by the roadside, while on the way to Tanjung Dawai from Sungai Petani, my friends had no reason not to stop even just for a short while for me to have a glance of this place.

There was no entrance fee but one had to register to enter into the gated compound. You could also follow a guided tour of the place if you are willing to pay for the service but that should be worth the money.

I had been seeing the photos and illustrations of Lembah Bujang in my school textbooks many years ago and now everything came so real right in front of me.

The soil was dug for excavation work under the shelters built, perhaps to protect the work from being destroyed by the heat and rain. And there were actually many of these sheltered spots around the area.

This was actually a huge area to explore and we did not have much time in hand, especially when I had a plane to catch later in the evening. Even though I did not have the chance to learn more about the ancient Kedah Government that day, that should be the reason for me to come back to this place one more time. And there is also a Lembah Bujang Museum that could be visited actually.

BRUNEI HISTORY CENTRE DISCOVERED

29TH MAY 2023     ~ Brunei History Centre was the building we found by accident while walking in Bandar Seri Begawan. The place was opened to public and there was no entrance fee and we happily walked into the gallery.

Brunei History Centre was like a museum, displaying the history of the country. However, the exhibition in the gallery was mostly text and photos on the walls. The two travellers who just arrived were just too tired to read everything but we were impressed with the brightly lit and colourful exhibition.

Brunei History Centre was not in our original itinerary list and we were happy we discovered the place.
