BUYING AKOK IN DUNGUN

14th OCTOBER 2023    ~ We stopped by at this one place which I could not remember its name from Dungun to Kuala Lumpur to buy the traditional "kuih" [dessert] called Akok. At this stall, Akok was made in bigger amount using the method inherited from the forefathers. It is popular among the people of Terengganu, or the East Coast perhaps.

The "kuih" was sold like hot cakes, literally speaking. We had to wait for the new batch of Akok to be baked as there was someone else who came earlier than us, bought the "kuih" and left the tray empty.

A lot of firewood and coconut husk were used in the process of preparing the traditional "kuih". The mixture of flour, eggs and sugar was them poured into a brass mould which was then put on the fire to cook.

We finally brought back three containers of Akok to Kuala Lumpur, and I even took one home to Johor Bahru. I am not sure if I would get back to this place again one day.

COMBING THE BEACHES OF DUNGUN IN THE MORNING - PART TWO

14th OCTOBER 2023 ~ The second part of the tour along the beach of Dungun in Terengganu took us to the spot where Universiti Teknologi Mara [UITM] Dungun branch was located. Near the campus, there was a lake and recreational park. It was at the one end of the long stretch of beach.

There were more people here doing their morning walk or jog. They could either be the locals or university staff/students.

I had many photos of myself taken here as Mr. Ridwan Wahid [my TESL UPM Class of 1993 friend] who was the tour guide was just persistent to do that.

I just got to know the name of the lake was Tasik Teluk Gadong as printed on the banner in the background.

I will have to come back to Dungun again one day to explore more. I am sure there are still a lot of places which are not yet explored and discovered, and hoping I will be invited for another road trip by Mr. Ridwan to Terengganu soon.

COMBING THE BEACHES OF DUNGUN IN THE MORNING - PART ONE

Mr. Ridwan Wahid demonstrated his determination to show me around Dungun early in the morning on the second day we were there, on the 14th October, 2023. I guess Dungun people started their day late on Saturday morning as there were only the two of us on the beach at that time.

The beach nearest to our accommodation was called Pantai Teluk Lipat. There was some sort of repair works going on so as to curb the problem of land erosion caused by the big waves. Consequently, it changed the landscape of the beaches unfortunately.

We then went to the other part of the stretch of beach which was near Universiti Teknologi Mara [UITM] Dungun branch.
