THE LAST IN-HOUSE TRAINING OF THE YEAR

21st September ~ This should be the last in-house training (LADAP)of the year for the teachers. Again, we congregated at CTL lecture hall in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia for this programme.  I think we should be the regular customer of this place by now.

We had two slots as usual. The first session was conducted by En. Abdul Rahim, an officer from the State Education Department on filing system, writing meeting minutes and related matters. The second talk was delivered by our own teacher, Ustaz Mohd. Rifqi Myddin with the title "Working as Ibadah (translate: good deeds)".

It is not that easy to find people who have the knowledge of the subject matter as well as the skills in presenting the content. However, we were lucky today as we had speakers who were both knowledgeable and effective in delivery. It is very important to make people feel that they have sit through sessions which are meaningful and informative so we will try and find more good speakers for LADAP next year.

THE SECOND IN-HOUSE TRAINING FOR THIS YEAR

The second in-house training for teachers was held today in CTL, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Here's the report in brief:

7:30 a.m. ~ Registration

8:00 a.m. ~ 1st session: "Professional Learning Community" by Puan Halijah bt. Ariffin, lecturer of Institut Aminuddin Baki.

10:45 a.m. ~ Tea Break

11:15 a.m. ~ 2nd session: "Handling Teenagers'  Problems" by Dr. Adnan Omar, the Counsellor of SM Islam Hidayah

12:40 p.m. ~ The course ended. *yeay*

I find both sessions were interesting as they provided new knowledge and insight that could assist us in school. The moral of the story: Always find good speakers for in-house programmes and many will benefit.

IN-HOUSE TRAINING FOR TEACHERS AT UTM

The first in-house training for teachers, involving both the morning and afternoon sessions, were held today in CTL, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. CTL has been our favourite place for this kind of event as the lecture hall is more comfortable for everybody if compared to the school hall.

The first speaker was Tn. Hj. Ahmad Taufik bin Hamzah, one of the officers from the Johor Bahru District Education Department and he was giving a talk on the "Caring and Friendly" approach.

In the second slot, the teachers were again briefed about the School Based Assessment System, commonly known as PBS and the speakers were our own teachers, who were Puan Nadzlina and Puan Norizah.

The course ended at about 1:30 p.m. There will be two more series of LADAP similar to this coming soon for us.

THE FIRST IN-SERVICE TRAINING OF THE YEAR

Finally, we had our first official in-service training for teachers also known as LADAP, a short form of the Malay phrase "Latihan Dalam Perkhidmatan". And thank god, it was not done during the school holidays as planned earlier. The first event that was done was the "tahlil" session at the "surau" in conjunction with the upcoming Teachers' Day.

The topic that was delivered was the PBS or School Based Assessment, the latest buzz word in school. Three speakers were from own school shared their knowledge with the teachers of the academic assessment procedures for the form one students, the psychometric assessment (from the counselling side) and the assessment of Physical Education and co-curriculum activities.

After listening to the briefing, I was already counting the days of my retirement. People who have planned the whole PBS thing must have NOT foreseen all the difficulties that have already arisen from the implementation of the school-based evaluation thing.

And I think we should not carry out any LADAP session in the school hall anymore as there are too many people and the place is not conducive enough for everyone. I am sure a few people will be willing to contribute if we are to rent a more comfortable and cool place in the future.
