THE ROYAL PALACE OF CAMBODIA - PART THREE

[CONTINUATION OF PART TWO]

13th AUGUST 2019 ~ The last section of the Cambodian Royal Palace was the ground which the Silver Pagoda was located (and I was already hot, tired and thirsty by this time). I could not remember the exact building where you could find the Silver Buddha and other items related to Buddhism. UNFORTUNATELY, again, visitors were not allowed to use their cameras here.

I think this should be the Silver Pagoda.

On the way out, there were other small buildings which were exhibition galleries. They even had traditional Cambodian houses with local women doing demonstration of silk-weaving.

I personally feel the galleries were too small and the exhibits too many. They could build another museum just to display all the items to the visitors.

I enjoyed myself very much to be here - to be able to at least see the lifestyle of the Cambodian royalty. When you possess a lot of money, you could always build huge and beautiful buildings.

SAHRO WEAVING VILLAGE IN SUKARARA, LOMBOK

17th March 2015 ~ The next stop was at Sahro Weaving Village in Sukarara. The visitors were first shown a demonstration on how weaving was traditionally done by a villager.

Then, if you are enthusiastic enough, you could get a hands-on experience, of course guided the more experienced one. According to the Sasak custom, a girl must be able to weave before she could be kidnapped and hidden by his lover, and then only the man would ask the girl's parents for the hands in marriage. Weaving is in a way a prerequisite for a girl to become a wife in Lombok, once.

The next activity was trying on the traditional Sasak costumes which consisted of multitude of colours woven in geometrical designs.  

This could be one place to buy handwoven cloth which is high in quality but I am not sure of the price. For men, you could buy your "kain samping" or "kain pelikat" here. You could still bargain for a lower price before purchasing and the materials were just too attractive not to buy.

There were more things to see at the house from the Northern Province. There was a weaving demonstration, how a cloth was produced from cotton threads. There was also a man playing a traditional musical instrument but too bad I did not record him on video.

The house from the southern part has many similarities with our local house. And they also play "wayang kulit" (shadow puppets).

After we had finished exploring, we had about an hour to go before the major performance. By that time, more people had arrived and we all sat at this open area where we were entertained by a magic show performance. And right after that, there were a pre-cultural show performance which lasted for about half an hour before they opened the door to the theatre.

I did not take any photos of the people dancing during the pre-performance as I was busy recording videos. Do come back for more videos of the dances after this.
