VISITING GALERI AURA ISLAM IN ANJUNG MYDIN

24th JANUARY 2026 ~ This was an impromptu decision to get into an exhibition at Anjung Mydin. Thank God, my friend, Mr. Redzuan, agreed to join me once I spotted the mini gallery called "Galeri Aura Islam" [TRANSLATE: Islamic Vibe Gallery].

There were a busload of school students when we arrived. The group was accompanied by a guide in the gallery.

This gallery showcased more than 300 authentic artifacts of Islamic civilization. I had once went to see the same exhibition in 2019 in Persada Johor but that time it was free if I am not mistaken. [READ HERE]

If you are around Iskandar Puteri area, this could be an option for an educational activity especially when there are not many museums you can find in Johor Bahru. The entrance ticket for an adult is RM30.

That was our first educational trip together, other than the regular trips to the malls and eating places. I am glad my friend enjoyed the short visit and I could take him to other museum next time.

VISITING MR. WOLF AGAIN

29th MARCH 2019 ~ Mr. Wolf was back in town. This should be my fourth time visiting Mr. Wolf, the first time in Kuala Lumpur back in 2012 [READ HERE] and the second and third time when the book sale was held in my hometown, Johor Bahru, in 2013 [READ HERE] and 2014 [READ HERE].

This time round, the event was held in Mydin Mutiara Rini which is about 20 kilometres away from the city, in the parking space of the mall.

Unfortunately, I found there were less books to choose from and there were not many books of contemporary fiction writers I could find on the tables, unlike last time. After some time, the place got real warm (READ: very hot) so I had to do my shopping quickly.

It is now time to start reading again. And I think there are still a few books that I bought from the last Big Bad Wolf sales remained unread *SIGH*.

MY HOMETOWN GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - GOING CHINESE FOR LUNCH

27th AUGUST 2018 ~ After the workshop session at SMK Mutiara Rini, the English teachers (who happened to be my ex-colleagues) and I, decided to eat out instead of the usual canteen food. 

We headed to Mee Tarik Warisan Asli restaurant in Mydin Taman Mutiara Rini, going Chinese for lunch. I was glad we chose this place as a few of them had never tried the food here. I had had the famous beef noodles before at other branches though.

It was good to meet some familiar faces and do some catching up. It is not easy to set up a gathering even though there are plans to do so, and this should be considered a success. Guess we all enjoyed both the food and the company. We should do this again some other time.

MY HOMETOWN GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - MARRYBROWN'S BRIYANI

20th APRIL 2018 ~ A colleague in school told me that Marrybrown now is offering a set meal for briyani so I decided to give it a try when I went to Mydin Mutiara Rini.

THE VERDICT: The briyani rice was briyani-ish which was not bad. However it had to be eaten with crispy fried chicken rather than the usual chicken cooked in gravy. There was curry gravy (I think) given in a small container though.

All in all, it was worth the price but I would rather have the traditional briyani next time.

MY FIRST TIME AT MYDIN MUTIARA RINI

I needed to get something so it was time to officiate my first visit to Mydin Mutiara Rini, the latest outlet in Johor Bahru.

The Mydin Mall was surprisingly huge. There was even a big stage on the ground floor (which should be good enough for my angklung performance).

There was this section in the supermarket where everything was sold at only RM2, which could be quite hard to resist as the items all looked so cheap.

I went to have a look at the food court. It could be a good place to hang out with friends (without any ex-students sitting there too which would not be highly possible).

And there was this bakery I would love to visit to try its coffee and pastries.

As expected, there were ex-students working part-time there.

I will definitely visit this mall again in the future, at least to visit the food court or other food outlets.
