TRAINEE TEACHERS COME AND GO

Today was the last day for Miss Choo Zi Luan, a trainee teacher of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris [UPSI] who came to do her practical teaching in SMK Dato' Jaafar for 10 weeks. She came just at the right time as one English teacher was on her maternity leave so she just took that teacher's two English classes. She got to experience teaching English classes online this time - throughout her stay.

Miss Choo was also an alumnus of the school.

Thank you Miss Choo for teaching in SDJ and wishing you all the best of luck in your studies and the journey ahead to become an English teacher.

BIDDING FAREWELL TO THE TRAINEE TEACHERS FROM SEMARANG, INDONESIA

It was only like yesterday when I went to the Faculty of Education in UTM to welcome three teacher trainees who came all the way from Semarang, Indonesia [READ ABOUT IT HERE]. Today, their teaching practicum ended after spending 4 weeks in school. This would the best I could do to bid them farewell as well as to thank them for the time in school.

So I took them to this one restaurant in Taman Universiti, a new one, called "Asam Pedas & BBQ" - thanks to Puan Mazelina for the suggestion. The place had not only great surrounding but also delicious food. Now I have one more option of a place to go if I have a friend/friends visiting.

I hope Mr. Iqbal, Ms. Triya and Ms. Lilin had enjoyed the authentic Johor dinner. I wish them the best of luck in their future undertakings and hopefully they had had a wonderful time teaching here for 4 weeks.

WELCOMING THE TRAINEE TEACHERS FROM UPGRI SEMARANG, INDONESIA

19th April 2015 ~ I was asked to represent the Principal to attend an event in the Faculty of Education, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. This event was held to welcome a few trainee teachers from UPGRI Semarang, Indonesia, to school. They would be undergoing a 4-week teacher training session and to me it would be more like an exchange students programme. I would have to see that they would at least not face any problem during their stay in Malaysia. That makes me sound a very important person.

As usual, I met another ex-student, Mr. Ser Kuan Wei from SPM batch 2008, in campus. How these people have really grown up so fast and how I have grown very old. *sigh*

TEACHER'S DAY CELEBRATED EARLIER IN SCHOOL

Thursday, 15th May 2014 ~ The annual class party for the afternoon session in conjunctions with the Teacher's Day celebration was held today in school. Students and teachers prepared food and drinks, for the first half of the school session. Everybody seemed to have a lot of fun.

There were just too many classes, too much food and too little time. I visited all the classes but I could not eat all the food offered. For one thing, I went back home fatter on that day. *sigh*

Today was also the last day for two trainees from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Miss Fatin Alia and Miss Nor Basila, who came to SMKTUN to teach English. We had an earlier potluck session for both of them on Saturday. On behalf of the school staff and students, I would like to thank both of them for coming over and hope that they have had fond memories of the school.

Congratulations to all the form teachers as well as replacement form teachers who had worked real hard for this event. I just hope this activity could strengthen the teacher-student relationship as we are all always busy with our assigned duties. Thank you also to all the students who had given their support and cooperation for this year's class party.

Lastly, Happy Teacher's Day to all the teachers out there.

ATTENDING MISS FADHLUN' S WEDDING

I must say that majority of the trainees who underwent their teaching practical sessions in SMK Taman Universiti were generally pleasant and friendly. They also adapted well to the school environment and seemed to enjoy their time in school. I was invited to a wedding of an ex-trainee. Miss Fadhlun Hanaffi, who was teaching in SMKTUN about three years ago. The event was held in Pekan Nanas, Pontian.

She is one of the few ex-trainees I am still keeping in touch with, thanks to Facebook. I even saw her attending the workshop I conducted for Pontian English language teachers recently.

I was also very very happy to get to meet Fadhlun's friend who was in the same batch doing her training in my school. Miss Lim Wen Li came all the way from Kuantan just to attend her friend's wedding.

Thanks a lot Puan Fadhlun (now a "Madam" already) and may your married life be filled with joy and happiness, with sunshine during the day and twinkling stars at night throughout the wedded life.

MR. IKRAM'S AND MR. FAHMI'S LAST DAY IN SMKTUN

Mr. Fahmi and Mr. Ikram were spending their last day in SMKTUN for the teaching practice session. As a tradition, we threw a small party for the two guys in the staffroom. Nothing heavy, we still had variety of food to choose from with "roti canai" being the main 'dish' of the table.

I hope both the trainees had had a good time when they were here in SMKTUN and wishing them the very best of luck in their future undertakings.

FAREWELL TO YET ANOTHER BATCH OF UTM TRAINEES

18th October ~ I bade farewell to three trainees from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia who were about to complete their teaching practice by Friday the 19th. However, I had to say "goodbye" earlier because I would not be in school by that time and was going to miss the potluck held in the staffroom.

Thanks a lot to the three people: Miss Lekha, Puan Yuni Nuraini (an ex-student of SMKTUN) and Miss Hani for assisting us in school throughout your stay. Hopefully you have all had a pleasant and memorable experience in school.
