ATTENDING UMUL KARIMAH'S WEDDING RECEPTION

I was invited to a wedding reception of an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti (SPM batch 2008), Ms. Umul Karimah Adam. The event was held at Rumah Johor, Hutan Bandar MBJB, Johor Bahru.

I had to thank the bride's sister Ms. Umusa'adah Adam, also an ex-student of SPM batch 2003 who had taken the trouble to send the invitation card by hand.

I did not know a wedding reception could be held here in Hutan Bandar [translate: forest in the city] and this was my first time here. I must say I was impressed with the Rumah Johor which is a traditional Malay house.

Thanks again to the family for inviting me to the reception. As for the bride and groom, wishing you a long lasting joy for the years ahead.

NEW YEAR IS THE TIME TO GET REUNITED

The first reunion meeting was with Mr. Ng Cheng Khai, ex-SMKTUN of SPM batch 2013. This should be some sort of our annual gathering in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration. We met at KFC Taman Universiti for less than an hour but that should be good enough to catch up lost time.

Next, I made a house visit to see another ex-student of SMKTUN, Miss Ng Lee Lan of SPM batch 2003. The last time I saw her was many years ago when she gave me a dinner treat, with another teacher friend. She is staying in Taman Universiti with both her parents, and too bad her other sisters who are also my ex-students were not at home.

The last gathering was more of early dinner kind of thing with Mr. Haiqal Johari (SMKTUN SPM batch 2016) who were back for the long weekends break. We settled for pizza at AEON Bukit Indah. There were actually a lot of people at the mall. Shouldn't this people be staying at home with their family members on the first day of new year?

So that was how I spent the first day of the Chinese New Year. It was much better (and more meaningful) than sleeping at home in the afternoon. :)

THE 2ND DAY OF EID 1438H

26th JUNE 2017 ~ Friends started arriving on the second day of Eid for the annual house visits. The first one knocking on my door in the morning were Puan Farah Sabina Safiai and her family members who residing in Seremban. A friend of UPM TESL class of 1993, she is a regular visitor as her in-law's house is just a stone's throw away from my place.

The next group of regular people I see during Eid were the family members of Puan Hayati Ismail, another friend of UPM TESL class of 1993. I have been seeing the kids grow up year after year.

The next unexpected guests were Mr. Aslan Muzafar, his wife and daughter. An ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti from SPM batch 2003, he came visiting for the very first time. The last time we saw each other should be like 14 years ago.

Another unexpected guests were Puan Rozainah Abdul Latif and family, also from my UPM TESL class of 1993. She is currently staying in Melaka but the in-law's place is just at the neighbouring "kampung" (a village-like residential area).

This is just the beginning. I am hoping to meet more people later, some once in a year kind of gathering. 27 more days to go...

ATTENDING NUR EMILLIDA'S WEDDING RECEPTION

29th APRIL 2017 ~ I was invited to attend a wedding reception of an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti, Miss Nur Emillida Yusoff at her house in Taman Sri Pulai Perdana. If I am not mistaken, she is from SPM batch 2003, and she is now a teacher teaching in SMK Tun Syed Nasir Ismail. I used to meet her when we went judging for district level marching competition.

I was there quite late as I went to attend a hi-tea gathering right before that, so I did not meet many ex-students.

Thanks for inviting, Ms. Emy. I wish both of you a lifetime of happiness together and a love that grows stronger with each passing day.

THE 11TH DAY OF SYAWAL 1437H

Four ex-students of SMKTUN who are siblings came visiting with their parents, kids, husbands and wife. They are Pn. Nasliana (SPM batch 2001), Pn. Nasyahidah (SPM batch 2003), Mr. Khairul Nisab (SPM batch 2005) and Mr. Amirul Husni (SPM batch 2010). After all these years, we have become like family friends.

Right after that, I went to a new residential area in Kangkar Pulai called Fortune Hills as I was invited to an open house gathering by Dr. Azzad's family. I really had to accept his invitation as he had come to my house twice for Eid.

His younger sister, who is also an ex-student of mine, was also there. Dr. Azaty Hamzah is from SPM batch 2004, and bot she and her brother were the school's chess players.

Hoping to see more people for the coming week. There still a lot of cookies at home.
