ISTANBUL DAY 2 - TOPKAPI PALACE PART 3

After we had finished observing all the exhibits, we went to the back part of the palace which was facing the sea. The weather was still not that kind, a bit of drizzle from early morning, the sky cloudy and the background was foggy.

there were actually four lions guarding the site

At this spot, a few buildings were opened to the public. The rooms had their own functions but they were all decorated very beautifully. They were tiled wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-ceiling and pillar-to-pillar. Visitors were here just to admire the colorful tiles and the amazingly intricate design was a trademark of the Turks' work of art.

So it was time to bid farewell to one of the magnificent venues that I have ever visited. If you are planning to visit Istanbul, please be sure Topkapi Palace is one of the places in your itinerary list and you will need to spend a lot of time here in order to see everything it has to offer.

ISTANBUL DAY 2 - TOPKAPI PALACE PART 2

The Topkapi Palace is now a museum. Other than browsing through the beautiful palace buildings, there were certain parts of the place which housed many historic exhibits but cameras were not allowed inside.

The palace showcased many important Muslim relics and one of the main attractions were the beards of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The strands of beards were put in individual small bottles which would be quite impossible to see from far.

There was a long line formed where visitors had to move from one room to another to observe the exhibition. At times, the line would move a bit slow and there would be a bigger crowd of curious people at certain station as they would try to spend more time there.

ISTANBUL DAY 2 - TOPKAPI PALACE PART 1

11th February 2013 ~ On the second day, we went to one of the must-visits of Istanbul, the Topkapi Palace. There were tourists flocking the palace even though we were there quite early. It reminded me of Hong Kong Disneyland.

The place was real huge and we, again, just followed the flow of the stream of visitors. We had to walk quite a distance from the entrance to the first building where people had already formed a beeline so we just went there to join the crowd.
