MY HOMETOWN GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - HAVING "SUP MERAH" WITH AN OLD FRIEND AND FAMILY

28th SPETEMBER 2018 ~ Puan Hanna Sheikh Mokhtar was in town with her family members and I was happy to meet her for an early dinner get together. They were here for the finals of National Level School Combo Competition held at RTM.

I suggested to meet at Selera Johor as there would be many food stalls selling local specialties but we were there quite late. The "Mee Rebus" and "Laksa Johor" were already sold out and even a few stalls had been closed. We opted for "gear box" soups and one of them is "Sup Merah" [translate: red soup, as the gravy is red] which was eaten with baguette/bread. This should be another dish I could suggest to my other friends if they come to Johor Bahru.

hoping to work with the young musician in the future

It was a short meeting as we had to go to the auditorium in RTM to watch the finals of the Combo Competition, and YES, I also went to watch.

It is always a pleasure to see friends of the UPM TESL group when they are here in town. Thanks Puan Hanna and family for the time and company.

REVISITING THE FORM 3 STUDENTS OF SMK SRI KUKUP

I was again invited to conduct an English workshop with PT3 candidates at SMK Seri Kukup in Pontian. The school is located approximately 60 kilometres away from home.

The session started at 8:30 a.m. and lasted for about 4 hours. (Almost) All the students were attentive and were doing all the exercises given throughout the workshop.

Wishing the students of SMK Sri Kukup the very best of luck in their upcoming PT3 Examination this Tuesday. Hopefully the workshop will them a little, if not a lot, in answering the questions later.

This could be my very last talk given for PT3 Examination as there could be a new format for next year. Up until today, we the teachers are still kept in the dark of what is about to happen to the students.

A COLLABORATIVE "SOLAT HAJAT" PROGRAMME WITH THE JOHOR POLICE CONTINGENT

27th SEPTEMBER 2018 ~ The "Solat Hajat" [a special prayer asking for something to be granted] for the upcoming public examinations, namely PT3, SPM and STPM, was held at Tunku Laksmana Abdul Jalil Mosque which is situated near SMK Dato' Jaafar. Johor's Police Chief, YDH Datuk Mohd. Khalil bin Kadir and wife, as well as other state's police officers, were present. This was like a collaboration activity between the school and the Police and this was the second time done at the mosque located inside the police headquarters. The mosque is new, air-conditioned and therefore, more suitable and comfortable for such programme. The attendance of the students and parents was also good.

The whole thing ended by 9:30 p.m. and I don't mind doing the same activity here again next year.

HOTEL REVIEW: HOTEL DE ART AT USJ21

I stayed at Hotel de Art at USJ 21 for one night last August as a friend told me it was quite new. I was impressed with the way it was decorated, inside out. It was as if I was staying in an art gallery where everything was beautiful and colourful. Even the bedroom wall was painted with a beautiful scenery.

Other good things is that, the hotel is located near to a neighbour mall, the Main Place Mall, which is just less than a 5-minute walk. And there is an LRT Station is also located not far away.

Even though the room was small, that should be sufficient and comfortable enough for a good night's sleep. I don't mind coming back to this place if I am to put up a night in KL again despite the fact that it is not in the city centre.
