THE MORNING MARKET AT KULIM TOWN

25TH MARCH 2018 ~ I had the chance to walk around the morning market at Kulim Town when we stopped by for a short while. I was there quite late as many of the sellers were already packing to close business for the day.

There were mostly food items - cooked and raw on sale. The fruits and vegetables looked fresh but too bad, I could not buy to take them home.

And I found this stall selling chicks and baby quails.

I would have to be there earlier if I were to visit Kulim again. There sure would be more things to see and buy.

MY FIRST EID GREETING CARD FINALLY ARRIVED

My very first Eid greeting card of the year 1439H arrived on Friday, 25th May. Thanks to Mr. Azman Awang and wife, Puan Azalina Ahmad Bakri, (both UPM unimates) for the kind thought.

Hoping for more cards to arrive soon from friends. That was what I used to do long time ago, waiting for the postman or checking the mailbox every time arriving home from school/work.

A SUPPER DATE AFTER THE TERAWIKH PRAYER

28th MAY 2018 ~ Someone just returned home from Liverpool for his semester break. We had to meet for supper or else we would have to wait for the fasting month to end. A date was set to meet at McD Setia Tropika after the Terawikh Prayer so it had to be brief.

Thanks Mr. Syazwan Shavarein  [ex-student of SMKTUN, SPM batch 2013] for the time and company.

I will have to seize the opportunity to get to meet my ex-students while I still can before they have their own lives, being occupied with their own career and family, and disappear into thin air.

MY KULIM GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE: CINONIE CORNER

25th MARCH 2018 ~ I was taken to Cinonie Corner in Kulim town for my late breakfast. There was a row of stalls and not many people were around as it was like after 10.00 a.m. What was the special food eaten here then? Roti canai/paratha (flat bread) served in a pan with a lot of gravy, rather than the usual plate. The pan, however, I supposed was meant only for the purpose of serving food to the customers and not for cooking.

If I were to make a return trip to Kulim, I would definitely have to try other food here. Too bad I had many reunions to do on that day. But there will always be a next time.

AUSTIN HEIGHTS INTERNATIONAL AND PRIVATE SCHOOL AT A GLANCE

I was at Austin Heights International and Private School for a public speaking competition on the 26th March 2018 [READ HERE]. I took the opportunity to have a look around the school, but just the facade where teachers and students from other schools gathered.

there is a lift!

a swimming pool

Everything looked so modern and expensive here. I guess if parents have more than enough spend, then it should be worth all the money to send their kids here. After all. education is some sort of investment for the future too.

PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION AT AUSTIN HEIGHTS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

A Public Speaking Competition was organized by Austin Heights International School today. The participants came from both the government and private schools from Johor Bahru and Pasir Gudang districts. There were also two students from Batu Pahat and Segamat. My friends and I were appointed as judges for the event.

As there were too many contestants and we did not want the competition to be too long in this month of Ramadhan, so we just had the impromptu speeches to be contested.

SDJ's students and teacher as the audience

Most of the competitors were good and deciding who should be the winners was not an easy thing to do.

Everything went very smoothly and the event ended by 12:00 p.m.

As usual, the were friends and ex-students at the venue.

It was good to be able to see new faces and new places once in a while, as well as meeting old friends. Apart from that, this should also be a new experience for both the students and teachers as participants came from non-government schools. Hopefully more activities involving students from private and government schools could be planned in the future.
