A FAREWELL EVENT FOR A TEACHER WHO WAS LEAVING THE SCHOOL [PART 2]

13TH FEBRUARY 2017 ~ After the session at the hall, there was a special lunch prepared at the canteen for the teachers and staff, and the food was sponsored by the canteen manager [Thanks Puan Imah]. There were more (short) speeches and followed by prize-giving slot (again).

handing over the post to the person replacing me
by cutting a cake :)

I must say I did not deserve the grand farewell event like this as I knew that I did not contribute much to the school. *sigh*

Thanks everybody for everything.
Thanks for the experience and the memory,
and thanks also for the friendship.

A FAREWELL EVENT FOR A TEACHER WHO WAS LEAVING THE SCHOOL [PART 1]

13th FEBRUARY 2017 ~ A farewell event was held at SMK Mutiara Rini for a teacher who was leaving the school - me. I had told them (the organizer) there was no need to organize such an event as I only taught there for about 2 years and 5 months but my persuasive skills did not work that time. I was there at 12:00 p.m., welcomed by the the teachers, staff and students at the hall. It was a grand function and I thought that I was celebrating my retirement already.

There were speeches, prize-giving ceremony, multimedia presentation and a performance by 5SN students whom I taught last year.

Even though the event took place a fortnight ago (I only received the photos yesterday), I would still like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the people who had worked very hard for this event. I wish I could write more to thank everybody but I am lost for words.

Thank you and only god may repay all your good deeds.

Thanks Mr. Faiq for inviting, and I wish both of you all the love and happiness the world has to offer today, tomorrow and ever after.

SAMOSIR - THE ISLAND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LAKE [PART 2]

31st JANUARY 2017 ~ After the small village, we were taken to this small plot of land where there were old tombs of the Batak kings of the past. Visitor is required to wear this colourful piece of cloth across the body, which is called Ulos, something customary I suppose.

Batak people believe that after many years of someone's death, he/she would reach a stage when the soul is purified. Then, people dig the grace, collect all the bones, clean them and the later the bones will be stored in a special place near the grave. Even though many of them are Christians, this tradition is still practised until today. We could see these huge graves just beside the houses when we were in the car from Parapat to Berastagi.

We did not spend a long time on the island even though there were many other places that could be seen. The itinerary provided by the tourist guide for Samosir was quite limited and I had seen people seeing more things there. If you plan to go there, you should try to explore more of the island, either by renting a motorbike or by cars. (Cars can be brought into the island on a special ferry)
