HATYAI TOWN AT A GLIMPSE

2nd DECEMBER 2019 ~ I found Hat Yai town centre was a very relaxed place and the road was not busy with traffic. There were not many people on the street when we were there late in the afternoon. We could see many Malaysians around and a lot of local Muslims too who could speak Malay language.

Here is an interesting fact of Hat Yai found in Wikipedia:

"Hat Yai is the largest city of Songkhla Province, the largest metropolitan area in the south, and the third largest metropolitan area of the country. It is often mistaken for being the provincial capital. In fact, Songkhla is the capital and the center of administration and culture while Hat Yai is the business center."

Hat Yai is a popular destination among Malaysians as the town is just across the border. Other factor could be halal food could be found easily almost everywhere. Other than that, shopping is one of the well-known activities here but things are not as cheap as they used to be. This is because the Thai baht has gone stronger compared to Malaysian RM. The rate was like 100 Baht = RM14 when we visited Thailand.

The place should be livelier during the weekends with more people doing their shopping and roaming the night market area. Hat Yai should be an option if you are looking for a place for a short getaway.
