THE 3D3N STAY AT SHAHZAN HOTEL, KUANTAN

the view from the museum

The accommodation chosen for my 3D3N in Kuantan was Shahzan Hotel which was located right in the heart of the city.

The hotel was an old one so one should not have to high an expectation. I found everything in the room alright it would be better if the hotel could do something about the carpet.

There was also a small swimming pool.

The best thing about the hotel was its strategic location. The attractions in the city were all within walking distance, e.g. River Espalande, Museum of Contemporary Art, the Mosque, Taman Kerang, Kuantan Tower.

The biggest problem for people who drive to Kuantan would be the very limited parking space here.

I would not mind getting back to Shahzan Hotel if I were to visit Kuantan again in the future.

THE UPM TESL CLASS OF 1993 POST-GATHERING DINNER SESSION IN KUANTAN

29TH JUNE 2024    ~ The second gathering for the TESL UPM Class of 1993 group members who were in Kuantan to attend a wedding reception of a friend's son took place after the event. The Kuantan people were again hosting the dinner session which happened at Nasi Vanggey Restaurant is Teluk Sisek area.

When the TESL gang gathered, the two must-have elements would be good food and spicy gossips.

Before leaving, we were all given frozen Murtabak Makassar, the food which is synonymous with Kuantan, to bring back home.

That should conclude my 3D3N trip to Kuantan this time. Thanks to all my friends for making the stay a memorable one.

We are now making it a point to attend wedding receptions of friends' children so that we could meet up more frequently. God willing, there will be more reunions of UPM TESL Class of 1993 soon.

HAVING TEA IN TANJUNG LUMPUR LIKE EAST COAST PEOPLE

29TH JUNE 2024    ~ Mr. Ridwan Wahid, a friend of UPM TESL Class of 1993, and his family were also in Kuantan attending the same wedding reception. He was asking me out with them to have tea, East Coast style at Tanjung Lumpur.

It was the place I had gone earlier in the morning with another TESL friend but at that time, it was empty and looked abandoned. However, it was totally a different scenario in the afternoon. The dining area was packed with customers so "Celup Tepung Hujung Tanjung" should be a popular destination in Kuantan among gastronomers.

The specialty of this place: Celup Tepung - seafood like fish, prawns and squid covered in flour and deep fried. Could be high in cholesterol but the taste was heavenly.

Thanks to Mr. Ridwan and family for including me in their gastronomic adventure in Kuantan which was not in my original itinerary list.

GOING TO SERAMBI TERUNTUM FOR THE SECOND TIME IN THE SAME DAY

29TH JUNE 2024    ~ After the wedding, I was searching for a the place to get salted fish and/or "Keropok Lekor" to bring back home from Kuantan. Puan Siti Rohani's husband was kind enough to drive around after we couldn't find the shop/stall in Beserah.

He then drove to this bazaar called Serambi Teruntum. We had actually come to this place earlier that day but it was not opened yet.

There were a lot of things that could be bought from the bazaar. Unfortunately, I couldn't find what I was looking for. We then went to the market at this one place that I had forgotten the name and stopped for "Fried Sata" on our way home. I did not take photos though at the two places, most probably I was already too hot and tired.
