ATTENDING A WEDDING RECEPTION IN SIMPANG RENGGAM

Today's wedding reception took place at a school, SMK Simpang Renggan, located in the small town of Simpang Renggam which is approximately 80 kilometres away from home. Today was the start of a 3-day long weekends so the traffic congestion was quite bad. It took me almost 2 hours to reach the venue.

It was the wedding of the daughter of an English teacher friend, Puan Nik Hasni Nik Mahmod, who has now retired from the profession. We used to mark the SPM English Exam paper together in the same group many years ago.

I did not recognize other people in the school hall except the husband and wife hosts and a relative of them. Therefore, I had to excuse myself once I had tried all the food offered.

Congratulations Puan Nik Hasni on the addition of the new member into the family. Thanks for the kind thought of inviting and hopefully I will be invited again in the future.

THE SUPPER SESSION AT BANAFE WITH A GUEST FROM KUALA LUMPUR

Someone was in town for work related purpose and we managed to set a supper date  the last night before leaving for Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

The chosen eating place was Banafe ~ one place which I knew that would still be buzzing with activities after 10.00 p.m. What more, tomorrow will be the start of long weekends because of a public holiday that falls on Sunday.

We just had something light for supper - Tauhu Bakar [TRANSLATE: Grilled Soya Cake]

Thanks to Mr. Norazman for the time. We could not stay long as someone has to go to work early tomorrow morning. Hopefully there is another opportunity for another meeting either here in Johor Bahru or Kuala Lumpur.

THE STREAK OF GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE HAPPENING IN PENANG

12TH JANUARY 2026    ~ After crossing over from Kedah to Penang, I was ready for more gastronomic adventure went Puan Aishah Aboo Bakar fetched me at the ferry terminal. Even though she just got out of school, it was kind enough of her to straightaway see me and take me for lunch at Kompleks Medan Suri. We went for breakfast a few days earlier when I arrived in Penang in the morning [READ HERE].

It was a bit late for lunch after 3:30 p.m. and many stalls were already closed.

This was one stall seemed popular among the visitors. Puan Aishah had to queue for the food for quite some time.

We had Fried Kuew Tiaw and Pasembor, and Fried Chicken that arrived later at the dining table. That was, however, not the end of the gastronomic adventure in Penang this time.

Puan Aishah even prepared Macaroni Soup once we reached her home [in Sungai Tiram in Bayan Lepas where the airport is located] as I was waiting for my flight later in the evening.

I was even given some Curry Puffs to bring back home, and that concluded my gastronomic adventure in Penang this time.
Thanks to Puan Aishah and Mr. Arif for the hospitality every time I am in Penang. There is possibility for me to get back to the island again except the time is still unknown.

THE LATE SUPPER SESSION AT A MAMAK RESTAURANT IN SUNGAI PETANI

11th JANUARY 2026    ~ My friend in Sungai Petani, Mr. Affendy, was only free late that Sunday night to meet. I was always ready for a cup of Masala Tea even though I just had had a supper session with an old friend an hour ago [READ HERE].

The chosen venue was Restoran Nasi Kandar Kadir Maju, which was similar to a Mamak restaurant, located in the heart of Sungat Petani town.

There were still people who came to eat supper or late dinner past midnight at this restaurant.

I decided to get Tosai which should be some kind of lighter food at that hour.

Too bad we could not stay for too long as it was getting really late. It was good to see an old friend and hope we could meet up for Teh Tarik again when I make a trip to the northern part of the Peninsular again one day.

THE POST WEDDING RECEPTION LUNCH SESSION IN GELANG PATAH

   24th JANUARY 2026

~ I attended a wedding reception in Pekan Nanas in the afternoon and a lunch date was set with my regular eating out friend, Mr. Redzuan, as I would be passing by his house on my way home.

The chosen restaurant this time was Zainik Cafe at Avenue 68 Gelang Patah.

I was still full from the feast at the reception so I opted for Fried Inoki Mushroom while my friend had Lemak Daging [Beef in Coconut Milk Gravy] for his rice.

I would love to get back to this restaurant and try the food on the menu next time. I will have to make sure I am hungry when I go there next time.
