BLOGGING FROM WELLINGTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

I survived my 3D3N stay in Wellington. I was lucky the second day was bright and sunny so I could enjoy the picturesque scenery of the city.

I am now waiting for my flight for the next destination. Praying hard for a good weather.

Can you the character from Hobbit in the background? That was at the Wellington Airport.

BLOGGING FROM AUCKLAND DOMESTIC TERMINAL

Yet another terminal, waiting for the last flight of the first section of the journey. I am  now in Auckland but will only come back here to explore the city before flying back home.

Oh I really hate this selfie thing.

BLOGGING FROM MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

After 7 hours flight from KL, I finally arrived at Melbourne International Airport. The last time I was here was in 2009. I have to wait for the connecting flight to the next city for 5 hours in the wee hour of the morning.

I am really bad with this selfie thing. I better get some sleep and pray I will be able to wake up before boarding time.

ATTENDING AINA'S AND SYAHIDA'S WEDDING

I went to attend a wedding of twin sisters who got married on the same date: Aini and Syahida Nordin. The reception was held at Kolej Perdana, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. I also got to meet the twins' other siblings who were my ex-students and one who is still in form two this year.

I am quite sure there will be more weddings I need to attend for this family in the future.

SPOT THE ERROR 62

[from my SPOT THE ERROR archive]

Many second language learners are confused with the usage of  "-st", "-nd", "-rd" and "-th" when it comes to writing dates, as seen in the above banner and bunting. They would rather look at the number and not how the date is read or how it is pronounced.

For those who are not so sure, this is how it works:
ST - first
ND - second
RD - third
TH - fourth/fifth/ sixth etc.

THEREFORE:

1st January is read as the first of January so you cannot write it as 11st of January as it is read as the eleventh January. The correct one will be 11th January.
31st January is read as thirty first of January so you cannot write it as the 31th January as you will not be able to read/pronounce a date written in that manner.

Hope this will help.

MY COLLECTIBLES - NECKTIES

Malaysia is a very hot country. That is the reason I do not wear a necktie to school. I wish male teachers are allowed to wear collared t-shirts and slacks so that we could work in a more comfortable environment.

However, I have some neckties stored away at home. I bought just a few myself but the rest were presents. How I wish I could make a public announcement telling people not to give me neckties as gifts. Well, beggars cannot be choosers.

Some of the options I have in mind are: (1) Having a car boot sale; (2) Exchanging ties with other people, like people exchanging stamps in their collection; (3) Giving them away as presents to other people. :) Just hope they don't notice, or they haven't seen this post in my blog.

MEETING AN OLD FRIEND AFTER 32 YEARS

"The best mirror is an old friend."
~ George Herbert ~

Today, after 32 years, I was reunited with an old friend from Sekolah Temenggong Abdul Rahman (2) [STAR2], Johor Bahru. I have lost contact with most of my primary school friends but managed to get connected with a few via Facebook. We sure have missed our simpler and happier childhood years together. I forgot to say sorry for putting a bee on his neck a long time ago - I couldn't remember doing it and I couldn't even believe I was capable of doing such a thing until he told me today. The meeting was definitely too short. We need a longer chat session to reminisce the good old time, so I hope I will be meeting Mr. Ali Hasan Amanullah again when he comes back to Johor Bahru, and perhaps I will try to get more people to join.

find me if you can

BAKING SESSION FOR ENGLISH CLASS - PHOTOS ON YOUTUBE

THANKS to Mr. Muhd. Fahmi Nurji for compiling the photos that were taken during the baking sessions for the Set A1 (Form 1) English class. You deserve a pat (or a lot of pats) on your back. Now I know who to turn to to get this job done in the future. :)

END OF YEAR HI-TEA FOR TEACHERS

16TH NOVEMBER ~ It was time for the annual event organized by KEBIRUS - the club for teachers and non-academic staff of the school. Selesa Hotel Johor Bahru was chosen this time which was good as it is quite near to my house.

Some people came here just with one mission, that was to eat. However, the ladies especially, took the extra effort to look more glamorous than any other ordinary days.

The event was quite simple. The speeches were short, the food was great and I was lucky to win a lucky draw prize this time (I hope it is an i-pad) - something that only happened once in a blue moon.

Congratulations to all the committee members who had made this event a success. Now we have to wait for one more year to do this again.

THE LAST POT LUCK OF THE YEAR

15TH NOVEMBER ~ It all started when Puan Noraliza Mazni intended to give a "mee rebus" [noodles with gravy] treat to the members of the staff room on the last day of school. Once the ball had started rolling, food began to accumulate for the very last pot luck of the year. This time, I decided to use a classroom that was not occupied so we could have more space and comfort in the company of friends.

As only three classes were asked to come to school today, more teachers could enjoy the food at the same time. There were variety of food: "mee rebus", "roti jala", "mee hoon tomyam", pizza, cakes and a lot more delicacies. The theme of the day was eat all you could until you could not eat anymore. *sigh*

Anyway, today was not the last day for us teachers. We will have to go to school again next week so the school holiday has not started yet. Hopefully we could finish up all the work that needs to be completed before we see each other again by the end of December.
