ENJOYING THE CREAMY AND SOFT GELATO IN SIRMIONE

19th OCTOBER 2024    ~ Our gastronomic adventure in Sirmione was different from the trips I had been to before. We just bought gelato or soft ice cream, as suggested by my friend cum tour group leader.

The name of the ice cream shop we went to was Mirkoz Gelateria dal 1988.

The reasons you should get the gelato in Sirmione are: The gelato was bigger in portion i.e. the scoop was bigger, the ice cream was creamy and the price was way much cheaper than the imported ice cream you always find in the ice cream parlour in shopping mall at home.

As for now, I would have no choice but  to just be happy with the ice cream tub resting in the refrigerator.

THE [EARLY] POST WEDDING RECEPTION SUPPER SESSION AT BAYAN LEPAS

21ST DECEMBER 2024    ~ After attending the wedding reception of a TESL friend's son in Royale Chulan in Georgetown, Mr. Ridwan, his family and I went to get our supper. The session happened most probably because it was too early to get back to the hotel but we were not that sure what else to do. We still went to Nasi Kandar Beratur 786 Restaurant in Bayan Lepas even though we were still full.

We just had something light and we still managed to empty the plate before leaving.

There were still more gastronomic adventures happening in Penang with the Ridwan's the very next day before I caught my flight home to Johor Bahru.

THE COLOURFUL PORCELAIN SHOP IN SERMIONE OLD TOWN

19th OCTOBER 2024    ~ Of all the shops in the old town of Sermione, the only one I went into was the porcelain shop, as recommended by the tour leader. The shop was filled with vibrant and colourful porcelain oh all sorts, shapes and sizes.

For one thing, people who went into the shop were allowed to take photos. From my previous experience, some arts and craft shop did not permit visitors to snap any pictures of the items on sale.

According to the Italian lady at the counter, who could be the owner of the shop, all the products were locally hand made and she even had stickers stuck on each piece verify this.

Both the tour leader and I got something from this shop to bring back home. If you come to visit me during Eid, I will show you the pieces to remember Sirmione by.

HAVING MEE KARI AT PEKAN RABU IN ALOR SETAR

19TH DECEMBER 2024   ~ All the walking in Alor Setar made me hungry so I decided to check out the food court on the ground floor of Pekan Rabu.

There were many stalls selling different varieties of food you could choose here.

The menu at this stall caught my attention and I knew I had to try the Mee Kari [TRANSLATE: Curry Noodles].

I made a wise decision as the Mee Kari was delicious and reminded me of the noodles I used to have in school many years ago. What was not missing in the bowl were the cockles that would make the dish more flavourful. This was good enough and I already know what to eat I am to go back to Pekan Rabu again one day.

My gastronomic adventure in Kedah had just started.

WALKING UP AND DOWN, AND ALL AROUND IN PEKAN RABU IN ALOR SETAR

19TH DECEMBER 2024   ~ The trip to Alor Setar would not be complete without visiting Pekan Rabu. This was the best place to go for visitors to shop and get souvenirs to bring back home. I just walked from the Art Gallery to this place in the afternoon.

There were not many people in the complex as it was a working day and the school holiday had not yet started.

The snacks and food items were something that would be difficult to resist but I had to keep reminding myself that I might be going somewhere else to shop the next day.

The last time I came here was back in 2009 and things had of course changed a lot. Everything looked cleaner and more presentable and attractive. I would definitely come here again when I make a return trip to Alor Setar next time.
