BLOGGING FROM CHIANG MAI, THAILAND

Today will be my final day in Chiang Mai, after spending three nights here. Too bad good things always have to come to an end. Nevertheless, it has been a good experience to get to see new people and new places.

I guess it is time to bid farewell again to Thailand. Hopefully, there will be other parts of this country that could be visited in the near future.

BLOGGING FROM CHIANG RAI, THAILAND

Similar to last year's trip, everything for this vacation was done quite late due to some unforeseen circumstances. I finally arrived in Chiang Rai, Thailand, on the 15th of December. I am hoping to see more of Thailand, after visiting Krabi and Bangkok last year. So far, I have explored the town and the night market area. I was also glad to find Muslim hawkers selling halal food near the mosque area. Let's see what Chiang Rai has to offer after this.

A MINI GET-TOGETHER WITH MY UPM TESL FRIENDS

A so called gathering was in session today when two old friends, Puan Aliza Alwi and Puan Wan Aisyah Wan Haris, arrived in JB. They have to attend a seminar in Berjaya Waterfront Hotel (formerly known as "The Zone"). The other one, Dr. Ng Pei Fern, who resides in JB and lectures in IPTI, also has to attend the same event. I was glad to get to see a few friends at the same time today, as I would not be available tomorrow onward.

The meeting was held at Plaza Kotaraya so I could introduce them to my favourite authentic Johor "Mee Rebus" for lunch. The gathering was a very short one as one of them had to go for a briefing at 2:30 p.m. but I guess we had had a pleasant time chatting.

Thanks everybody for the time. Hope to see you all again in the near future.

ATTENDING AMIRA'S WEDDING RECEPTION

I attended another wedding reception today, of another ex-student of SMKTUN, but I could not remember from which batch. All the bride's siblings were also the ex-students of the same school and I know the parents too.

Wishing Ms. Amira and her soulmate all the happiness in the world.

I am also expecting more wedding invitations from this family. However, this [hopefully] should be the last one of the year which I was invited.

MOVIE REVIEW - "IN THE HEART OF THE SEA"

Unlike the movie "Spectre" or "Star Wars", "The Heart of the Sea" is not given much publicity locally. I decided to go and watch and it was definitely a wise decision. For his upcoming book, an author went to see one of the crew members who survived the whale-hunting session, begging him to share his experience, with a sum of money as a reward. His story was then written into a novel entitled "Moby Dick".

Another story with a simple theme of human versus nature, but there should be more that could be discussed from the movie.

One of the gory scenes actually was found in the script when the crew members were talking on the boat. They were adrift with no rescue coming and then someone died (because of hunger or sickness or exhaustion). The main character was telling the other crew members not throw the corpse into the sea as that could be their source of food. It was further narrated that they first took out the internal organs, and separate the meat from the bones and ate the heart first. *euw...*
You have to listen for this part very carefully as there was no graphic on screen to support your imagination.

Hurry up people, go and watch the movie before the school reopens. And the hero is the same person who plays THOR, the superhero. So if you are expecting him to throw his hammer to defeat the whale, that is not going to happen.

STALL-HOPPING SESSION ONE AFTERNOON WITH MR. CHRISTOPHER

Mr. Christopher [SMKTUN SPM batch 2005] was on official duty at a school near my house so we decided to meet up after work. We met at my favourite stall in Kampung Melayu and introduced him to the popular "Murtabak" there. Right after, we decided to hop to another stall at the other food court just next door to try "Sup Daging Merah" (something like stew) but it was not available yet at that hour so we just opted for ordinary soup eaten with bread.

Thanks Christopher for the company. We should do this activity some other time.
