SOMBA OPU SHOPPING STREET IN MAKASSAR

16th OCTOBER 2017 ~ Somba Opu Street is a stretch of road that actually leads to the hotel where I was staying. A place which you should not miss IF you want to buy gold or jewellery. You could still walk here if you are looking for souvenir shops, but that is all the attraction of this place.

I just went to buy some souvenirs in one of the shops here and would definitely NOT buy any gold to bring home.

SANTA CLAUS CAME TO SCHOOL TOO EARLY THIS YEAR

Today it was the time to hand over the Lenovo tablets to individual teachers in SDJ. Santa Claus arrived too early this year but everyone was smiling ear to ear to receive his/her expensive present.

I wonder what else will we get after this?

GETTING THE NEW TOYS FOR THE TEACHERS

A few friends and I had to go to SMK Mohd Khalid, to get boxes of new tablets for teachers teaching in SDJ. We were there as early as 1:30 p.m. and the whole thing lasted for almost 3½ hours. There were forms to be stamped and signed, and the contents of the boxes had to be checked by the officers there before being taken back to school.

Now I have 2 tablets (I have been using one all this while), one smart phone (also given by the ministry to teachers) and one not-so-smart but handy mobile phone - all using different numbers. I personally feel it would be more beneficial if schools are equipped with LCD projectors rather than giving teachers free gadgets.

There will be more things to be done tomorrow at school - distributing the tabs to fellow teachers.

MOVIE REVIEW - "DOWNSIZED"

What should you do to overcome the problem of overpopulation and the rising cost of living? Downsize people and everything all around them. That is basically what the movie is about. Paul and his wife decided to shrink themselves and move to Leisureland, the new place for small people who have gone through the process of making themselves smaller. Just imagine Lilliput in Gulliver's Travel. Unfortunately for Paul, after he has successfully shrunk himself, he gets a phone call from the wife, telling him she could not continue with what they have planned and has to leave him on his own. Everything was too late for Paul as once one gets oneself dwarfed, it is irreversible.

Most of the scenes of the movie are funny and I must say I enjoy the story BUT the ending is somehow does not do justice to such an amazing scientific/futuristic theme. For Matt Damon fans, you can see the more realistic and "ugly" Matt Damon as an ordinary person, and not as a larger-than-life movie star. I would still recommend this movie as there is no other interesting films on show at the moment.

VISITING THE FISH MARKET IN MAKASSAR

16th OCTOBER 2017 ~ The guide stopped the car at this place so I could see the real fish market in Makassar. Fresh fish and seafood were in abundance - I just wished I could buy some to be brought home.

This was the river that connected the market to the sea. The fish and other sources of food came straight from the ocean, hence the freshness.

If I were to migrate to Makassar, this fish market could be the main reason for doing so.
