IT WAS A WET WEDNESDAY MORNING IN HAT YAI

4th DECEMBER 2019 ~ It rained in Hat Yai in the morning the last day we were there. We were still exploring and we had to stop and take shelter in the corridors of the buildings and run across the streets a few times. Here are some images of Hat Yai in a wet Wednesday morning that we only saw before leaving the city.

It was only a short getaway but I am sure the good memories with friends spending time together doing mostly eating and shopping will always linger.

VISITING A SICK FRIEND IN BATU PAHAT

3rd JANUARY 2020 ~ We got the news an old friend/ex-colleague is sick and hospitalized in Batu Pahat. The six of us decided to pay him a visit at Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital after the Friday prayer. Dr. Jamil Baser is an ex-teacher of SMK Taman Universiti before he left for Universiti Teknologi Hussein Onn in 2008. He is now in the ICU unit  
We couldn't stay too long when visiting someone in an ICU ward. Let's pray may Allah heal and grant him good health soon.

Someone's car tyre was punctured as we were about to leave the hospital compound. There's always a drama nowadays 😁

And we had to get dinner after all the hard work getting the tyre fixed. When in Batu Pahat, then one must eat the Briyani. 

And visiting the durian stall in front of the briyani shop after that.

Definitely a weekend well-spent with friends. I am glad we all still take the initiative to see each other when time permits even though we are already not working under the same roof anymore, or have even left the teaching profession.

THE LAST SHOPPING TRIP AT KIM YONG MARKET BEFORE LEAVING HAT YAI

4th DECEMBER 2019 ~ The final day finally arrived so it was time to finish all the Baht that was left in the wallet. Right after breakfast, we took the tuk tuk to Kim Mun Market to see whether there were still things that we could take back home.

Was I surprised to see that we still carried out business transaction here at the market? 😀

Kim Yong Market was the spot where I had to bid farewell to the three ladies who had to leave earlier to catch their flight back to Kuala Lumpur in the afternoon. So we exchanged our goodbyes and sent them off in the tuk tuk before we continued exploring the market place.

There were actually many more interesting things that were sold outside the market, mostly perishable items like vegetables, fruits and fresh flowers.

I guess that should be a getaway which was filled with intense shopping and eating out activities. I am glad I decided to join the short vacation across the border. Hat Yai is the place for a short escapade from the stressful life but too bad, the Thai Baht is getting stronger so you would have to spend more if you are there.

MY HAT YAI GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - OUR SECOND BREAKFAST AT TAM RAB RESTAURANT

4th DECEMBER 2019 ~ We made a return trip to Tam Rab Restaurant on the second day for breakfast because: (1) It was convenient as the restaurant was just across the  road from the hotel we were staying at (2) We liked the food.

We tried other food this time although the temptation to order the same Kueytiaw Soup I had the day before was still strong.

I had Nasi Kerabu as I found a positive review about the food served here. However, I still prefer our own version of the same rice back home.

All in all, I would recommend Tam Rab Restaurant to people visiting Hat Yai there are many varieties of food to choose from especially for its breakfast.

MY HAT YAI GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - HAVING DESSERT ON THE STREET

3rd DECEMBER 2019 ~ After all the walking and shopping, what better way to quench our thirst except by trying the dessert at the stall on the street.

There were a few choices of dessert with different ingredients and we tried Lai Ci Kang, Ging Ko, Bean Curd and the other one was Bird's Nest, I think.  

I personally loved the dessert here - very refreshing for tired and thirsty shopaholics. I have never seen a stall selling a variety of dessert back home. We should have one like this, instead of all the bubble tea outlets for youngsters.
