CHICKEN RICE FOR LUNCH AT KUALA BELAIT

   30th MAY 2023    ~ It was actually quite late for lunch and we were taken to this restaurant by our new friend, Mr. Zerul. Bersatu [TRANSLATE: UNITED] Chicken Rice Restaurant sounded too patriotic to me.

Only two or three tables were occupied when we arrived as it was already past lunch hour.

The food was good but the company of a new friend had made it better.

I had the chance to have a short chat with the Chinese woman at the cashier counter who could be the owner of the place. We went to the shops across the restaurant after that. As I was crossing the road after going out from the shop, a male waiter came running to me, handing over a packet of chips and a container of fried salted ground nuts, and I saw the lady cashier smiling and waving at us. How kind and friendly of them to give away some door gifts to the tourists from Malaysia.

One of the gastronomic adventures that I should remember for many more years to come. This should be one place I will be coming back to when I make a return trip to Kuala Belait in the future.

WALKING THE STREETS OF KUALA BELAIT TOWN

    30TH MAY 2023    ~ We then stopped at the Riverfront area of Kuala Belait where there was the prominent landmark called Menara Cendera Kenangan [TRANSLATE: Menara = Tower] and an amphitheater beside it.

The big river is Belait River that flows to the South China Sea.

Guess we were the only people who were not working walking around the Riverfront area that afternoon.

Then we were taken by our newly made local friend cum tourist guide to the commercial area of the town where there were shops. It was as if we were in an unoccupied spot of a small town and it looked as if everybody was busy working in the office or was somewhere else at that time.

KUALA BELAIT AT A GLANCE - FROM INSIDE THE CAR

    30TH MAY 2023     ~ It was our lucky day as our newly made friend whom we met at Suria Energy Lab [READ HERE], Mr. Zerul, had volunteered to take us on a tour around Kuala Belait in his car.

One of the places we stopped was inside the military camp where the NAAFI shop was located. We got to see imported goods on the shelves and British army personnel too inside.

We were taken around the places where the oil was stored and processed. There were large oil tanks all around and I felt like I was on another planet. These images should already illustrate Brunei as one of the world's biggest oil producers and I was impressed.

Actually there were a few videos taken by my travel companion when we were driven around [on his Apple phone] but I couldn't combine all the short videos using my video editor apps. Will try to get that done soon.
