THE LAST IN-HOUSE TRAINING OF THE YEAR

21st September ~ This should be the last in-house training (LADAP)of the year for the teachers. Again, we congregated at CTL lecture hall in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia for this programme.  I think we should be the regular customer of this place by now.

We had two slots as usual. The first session was conducted by En. Abdul Rahim, an officer from the State Education Department on filing system, writing meeting minutes and related matters. The second talk was delivered by our own teacher, Ustaz Mohd. Rifqi Myddin with the title "Working as Ibadah (translate: good deeds)".

It is not that easy to find people who have the knowledge of the subject matter as well as the skills in presenting the content. However, we were lucky today as we had speakers who were both knowledgeable and effective in delivery. It is very important to make people feel that they have sit through sessions which are meaningful and informative so we will try and find more good speakers for LADAP next year.

PMR SEMINAR FOR TIRAM ZONE (PASIR GUDANG PPD)

20th September ~ I was invited to another seminar cum workshop and this time it was organized by the Tiram Zone of Pasir Gudang District Education Office. 80 students from 8 schools attended this session and the organizer was SMK Desa Cemerlang which also played host for the day.

With about two more weeks before the PMR exam starts, I guess this should be the last talk for this year. I wish everyone the very best of luck but you will still have the time to study.

MOVIE REVIEW - "KICK ASS 2"

I have to confess something here. I went for a movie marathon on a Wednesday night with Mr. Sharudin Mazlan but I had no regret. Right after "Grown Ups 2", we marched into the same hall for the next show: "Kick Ass 2".

This movie is the sequel to the one that was shown three years ago. So it is basically the continuation of the first one and it was not surprising that the movie was still dense with violence, verbally and physically. I have a feeling the person who is working at the censorship board is: (1) someone who does not really understand what the whole movie is about, or do not understand the dialogues spoken by the characters; (2) someone who is more liberal; or (3) someone who is confused of what he/she should be doing as there will be too many parts that will need to be cut, and in the end, he/she does not do anything at all, or else there will no "Kick Ass 2".

Having watch the first movie, this time it made more sense. Despite the violent actions and curse words in abundance, it was a comedy actually but was meant for adults. You have to be matured and more open to appreciate and enjoy this kind of genre. There were still values that could be found at the end of the story: friendship, loyalty, determination, courageous, adventurous etc. so it was not that bad after all.

Nevertheless, to all the kids out there, you should watch some other movies like The Smurfs in 3-D and its kind, definitely not this one. You have been warned!

MOVIE REVIEW - "GROWN UPS 2"

I was in a dire need to watch a movie. The last one I watched was "Superman". I had been wanting to watch this comedy for a long time and tonight I finally did it. "Grown Ups 2" is a story with the theme: unleash the teen in you. This is the show that will make you laugh silly, from the very beginning right until the very end. You could see things you would never imagine adults would do. Adam Sandler was the lead role with other popular figures like Kevin James and Chris Rock, and Salma Hayek was there too. Surprise.. surprise... Taylor Lautner a.k.a Jacob from the "Twilight" saga played a comedy role in the film and he was seriously funny (oxymoron).

If you are having a tough time at work, you should go watch this movie, and laugh and cry (the tears of joy) like there is no tomorrow.

OF HARI MALAYSIA AND A POST EID VISIT

16th September ~ First of all, "Selamat Hari Malaysia" - the day  when Sabah and Sarawak (and Singapore) joined Persekutuan Tanah Melayu to form Malaysia 50 years ago. Correct me if I got my history fact not right. A few friends did not manage to visit during Eid so they decided to come over on this day. Furthermore, they were all going to attend a wedding reception of our ex-principal's son in town right after so the time was just right.

As you can see, visiting and eating are not only done during Eid. It should always be a pleasure to open the door to visitors during any other months of the year.

ATTENDING MY EX-PRINCIPAL'S SON'S WEDDING RECEPTION

Another wedding invitation came from the fourth ex-Principal of SMK Taman Universiti, Puan Hajah Ramlah Rahmat. The reception was done for her youngest son and the event was carried out at a hall situated at Jalan Gertak Merah, the same place where the other two weddings of the elder son and daughter were held last time.

I came with a colleague, Mr. Masrizal, and we were there at about 3:00 p.m. There were not many people anymore and I was delighted to find another colleague, Puan Rafidah, with her husband and kids, and another one, Puan Hajah Ruhanah, arriving a bit later than us. We also met an ex-colleague, Mr. Saiful Azizi, with his family members after that.

the latecomers: En. Hisham and Pn. Hafizah

That should wrap up the activities that I had throughout the long weekends - Monday was a national public holiday, which were nothing much actually. Nevertheless, I had a lot of rest and managed to do some things that should have been done much earlier but I still have to go watch a movie.
