HAVING MEE JAWA PAK AWANG FOR BREAKFAST

Pak Awang in action

8TH SEPTEMBER 2022   ~ The gastronomic adventure om the last day in Kuching started with breakfast in the city centre. We managed to find Pak Awang and his Mee Jawa in his small restaurant among the shops in touristy area of Kuching. We went here as recommended by an ex-colleague whom I had met two days before.

In other place, I think the Mee Jawa came with a few satay sticks.

We were glad we had tried one of the local food in Kuching a few hours before leaving.

THE MORNING WALK IN KUCHING CITY ON THE LAST DAY

8TH SEPTEMBER 2022   ~ We finally came to the very last day in Kuching but we still have long hours to spend as our flight back home would be at night.

Even though he had walked the same route a few times before, the morning session was different because: [1] there were less people and traffic and the road [2] the sky was bright and blue [it was gloomy during the first 3 days here.

We went to walk on Darul Hana bridge again to see the panorama from the middle of the river. It was much more peaceful than it was at night when there were always many people here. If you want to get the best view from the bridge, then you should be here early in the morning.

This should be the last time for us to see beautiful Kuching city before we flew back home later at night.

ATTENDING AN AQIQAH EVENT OF AN EX-STUDENT'S SON IN MUAR

26TH NOVEMBER 2022 ~ Today I drove all the way to Muar to attend an Aqiqah event. I was invited by an ex-student [of SMK Taman Universiti] and the event was meant for his youngest son [at the moment].

I successfully found his house and all the delicious food was already served on the buffet table.

First, there was the host's elder sister who was also an ex-student and ex-colleague of the same school.

Then, there was an ex-colleague of SMK Mutiara Rini, who is actually the host's brother-in-law. It's a small world after all.

After I had tried [almost] all the food available, it was time to drive back home.

Thanks Mr. Amin Ahmad for the kind thought. I felt very appreciated. Distance sometimes is not a reason not to attend a function when invited.

EXPLORING INDIA STREET AND CHINA TOWN OF KUCHING

7TH SEPTEMBER 2022   ~ We went exploring on the last night in Kuching by walking on India Street first. This was a pedestrian mall selling mostly shirts and clothes as well as other souvenir items for tourists. We were actually looking for something to bring back home as souvenirs.

What made this street special was its decorative roofs.

Shoppers could get items to bring back home from this place. However, the place closed down quite early, I think by 7:00 p.m.

We then moved on to the China Town of Kuching. Here it looked more like a night market and most of the vendors were selling food items. The good news is that there were also people of other races who ran their business here.

The food bought from China Town was eaten at the Waterfront and that was actually our dinner.

And one more day to go before we flew back home.
