20th DECEMBER 2024 ~ On our way to Padang Besar, we drove past this Ladang Kenaf [TRANSLATE: Kenaf Farm] on the right side of the road]. The driver cum tourist guide decided to make an impromptu U-turn so that we could stop by and see what this place had to offer. I, myself, had never heard of either the farm or the plant called Kenaf, so this should be something very interesting.
SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT KENAF:
- Kenaf, scientifically known as Hibiscus Cannabinus, originated from Africa,
- It is a fibrous plant that resembles a shrub and takes 120-150 days to mature.
- Kenaf sticks are processed to produce fibre and core.
- Examples of high quality and environmentally friendly products from Kenaf are like biocomposite, biodegradable utensils [BDU], panels, beddings and livestock feed.
- Locally, Kenaf has become an alternative crop for tobacco and has generated a new source of income.
We, on the other hand, were amazed of the beautiful yellow flowers of Kenaf that dotted the green leaves and that was a sight to behold.
We just drove a bit into the farm and stopped by the red soil roadside to admire the scenery.
The lush greenery as far as the eyes could see, with the bright, blue sky in the background, would be a fantastic spot for passers-by to capture the picturesque view. When the wind blew, the Kenaf plants formed waves and the yellow flowers danced on top of the leaves. You could see this in the videos below.

One reason why Kenaf is grown in Chuping, Perlis, is because the plants require well drained, sandy loam with a warm, moist tropical climate, without excessively heavy rain or strong wind.
There was a spot outside where visitors could get themselves photographed in front of/the entrance the farm.
Even though Kenaf Farm was not in the itinerary list of the trip to Perlis [there was actually no list], it was an educational visit, not only for the tourist, but also the tourist guide.
