19th DECEMBER 2024 ~ One could not miss this majestic holy building in the heart of Alor Setar city. Its traditional but unique building should capture the attention of any visitors passing by the main road. I stopped by at Zahir Mosque as I needed to perform my afternoon prayers of the day.

Some interesting facts about Zahir Mosque:
- On the same site, there was a wooden Old Mosque which was built in 1735 and it had a similar architecture as Kampung Laut Mosque in Kelantan.
- As the old mosque could only accommodate 600 people, the Old Mosque was moved to Alor Merah in 1912.
- Zahir Mosque was constructed on 11th March 1912 to replace the Old Mosque and was officially opened to public in 1915.
- The site of the mosque was actually the cemetery of Kedah warriors who were killed during the Siamese invasion in 1821.
- Zahir Mosque's design was inspired by Azizi Mosque in North Sumatera.

I managed to get one young girl who was there to take photos to help get myself photographed in front of Zahir Mosque - voted as one of the most beautiful mosques in the world. [source: British Muslim Magazine]
