MOVIE REVIEW - "KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE"

This was the movie I had been waiting for. People want to see the much younger version of James Bond a.k.a a secret service agent. There was never a dull moment. However, some of the scenes contained extreme violence and the language might not be suitable for younger viewers. The F-word was heard throughout. You have been warned!

And at the end of the show, the moral that will be instilled is "Manners Maketh Man" and I really hope people practice what they have learned after they go out of the movie theatre so that we will have less problems on planet earth.

It is one entertaining movie that you should not miss. Be sure you are in the long queue before school reopens after the long CNY break.

I forgot to mention, this movie is rated suitable only for 18 years and above - like that is going to make any difference.

ATTENDING A "TAHNIK" CEREMONY

19th February 2015 ~ I was invited to a "tahnik" ceremony for the newly-born, the son on Mr. Khairul Nisab Shaarin at his parents' house in Taman Universiti. His family has become family friends by now. I was there quite late so I missed the exciting part of it all and was there to enjoy the food.

with the proud father

"Tahnik" is an Islamic ceremony of touching the lips of a newborn baby with honey, sweet juice or pressed dates.During the times of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), Muslims would bring their newborn babies to him and he would perform "Tahnik" upon them. [Wikipedia]

As usual, there was Mr. Amirul Husni, Mr.Khairul Nisab's brother and a few ex-students.

Congratulations Nisab on the arrival of the new family member.

We, however, still miss someone we love dearly so much.

BOOK REVIEW - "SUAMIKU ENCIK SOTONG"

When was the last time I read a Malay novel?
It was a very, very long time ago, I couldn't remember when.

How did I manage to grab this novel?
I saw one of the boys in my tuition class was having the book so I started flipping through the page while the students were doing their language exercises.
*beggars cannot be choosers*

How long did I take to finish reading?
Weeks. At first, I read a few chapters during classes but then, the Chinese New Year long break was coming so I didn't have classes with them so I took the novel home to finish it.
A book is like food you know, you will try to finish it no matter how bad it is.

So how was it?
It was just another Malay novel which was then turned into endless episodes of TV dramas.

What are the lessons learnt?
(1) Mother-in-law (or future mother-in-law) is evil.
(2) Girlfriends and wives are always forgiving.
(4) The bad guy could turn over a new leaf in a blink of an eye.
*sounds familiar?*

I just hope teens reading this novel will get the RIGHT message the writer is trying to convey.

MOVIE REVIEW - "BOYHOOD"

A movie trailer could be deceiving and I became a victim when I went to watch this film yesterday.

Basically it is a life story of someone not significant at all - how someone has grown and developed for the time span of 12 years, with some conflicts in his life. The end. There is nothing dramatic. None.

How bad it is: I was thinking of walking out of the theatre in the middle of the almost-3-hour show, and the whole thing suddenly ended, leaving me feeling there was something not right about this film.

How is this movie distinct from others: The film was done for 12 years, with all the same casts starring in it. TWELVE LONG YEARS! You can see the evolution of the main character, Mason, within the 12-year time frame in the picture below.

ANOTHER WEIRD FACT: This film is expected to win the Academy Awards for Best Film this year. Because it is different from other mainstream movies? I do hope it will win though, at least it would worth the money I have spent.

our CNY break started earlier
Sorry Mr. Solihin I had dragged you into the cinema. We would go for an action movie some other time.

You have to be mentally strong to sit through this lengthy movie. I even overheard the person sitting behind me snoring during the show. *sigh* And I am not making this up.

I NEVER PROMISED YOU A ROSE GARDEN

Sometimes school could be too stressful so I needed to let the steam out. With not much choice in hand, I went to my favourite nursery at Ulu Choh right after school. I actually had to get my supply of fertilizers and as Chinese New Year long break is just around the corner, I hope I could do some gardening work soon.

I should be a regular at the nursery but there was a new batch of workers it seemed. And the two Indonesian ladies addressed me as "uncle". *sigh* Like it or not, I will still have to visit the nursery again when the needs arises.

ATTENDING PUAN ZURAIDAH'S SON'S WEDDING RECEPTION

Puan Zuraidah Hussein was holding a wedding reception for his son, the first wedding for the family. The bridegroom was also an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti. I had the chance to meet up with friends there. As I arrived there quite early, I just bumped into a few students and ex-students at the event in Rumah Alumni, UTM.

Congratulations to both the parents and the couple, and I am still hoping to receive more wedding invitation cards from the family in the future.
