REUNITED WITH AN EX-COLLEAGUE IN SEGAMAT - MR. ROSLI PUTEH

17TH AUGUST 2022 ~  The last reunion session took place on the second day of my stay in Segamat. This time it was with an ex-colleague of SMK Taman Universiti, Mr. Rosli Puteh, who was also one of the pioneer teachers if the school back in December 1994.

The chosen venue was Segamat Seafood Restaurant, in one newly developed area in Segamat where I could see many other eating places.

Mr. Rosli is now the Deputy District Education Officer of Segamat. It was kind enough of him to still find some time with me when I was in town. He was a very busy man I must say as he had to answer a work-related phone call when we were meeting.

And I got to follow him to the Segamat Police Headquarter right after that - because of that work related matter. 😀 Guess you have to work longer hours when you are in the District Office.

Thank you Mr. Rosli Puteh for the time and the company, as well as the treat. My second time meeting him in Segamat when I was on my official duty, the last time was in 2019 if I am not mistaken.

Friendship lasts a long time.

REUNITED WITH AN EX-STUDENT IN SEGAMAT - MR. SAMSULNAHAR YUSOF

17th AUGUST 2022 ~ The second reunion session was set on the second day of my stay in Segamat. Initially we planned to meet up the night before but then it had to be postponed for some unforeseen circumstances. Mr. Samsulnahar Yusof, an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti, is currently teaching in Cha'ah and the last time we met in Segamat was in 2019 when I was with my school's debate team.

We had a sit in session in one western food restaurant in Segamat town called The Pallet and he was kind enough to give me a treat.

It was another short meeting as I had to be back with the chess team by 5:00 p.m.

Thanks a lot Mr. Samsul for the time. Thanks also for driving all the way from Chaah to Segamat to meet me and then send me back to Batu Anam. Hope to see you again some other time, either in Segamat or Johor Bahru one of these days.

The State Level Chess Competition for Johor was held in SMK Seri Kenangan, Segamat, from 16th - 18th August. The competition was held at the same place in 2015, and surprisingly I couldn't remember much about it. [READ HERE] and [HERE].

The Johor Bahru team consisted of 24 players and 10 accompanying teachers.

REUNITED WITH AN EX-STUDENT IN SEGAMAT - MR. SHARUDIN MAZLAN

16th AUGUST 2022 ~ The first reunion session was set as early as the first day in Segamat. I contacted Mr. Sharudin Mazlan, an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti, who is now working in UiTM Segamat. He only finished work at 5:30 p.m. and arrived at SMK Seri Kenangan, the hosting school of the chess tournament, at 6:00 p.m.

We just went to a restaurant in front of the school as I had to be back by 7:00 p.m. when the competitions of the first day ended, to be with the team.

still working

It was just a very short sit in session but it was worth the effort. We managed to get ourselves updated and he had interesting stories to tell too of the people he had to deal at the workplace. Thanks Mr. Sharudin for the time, and the treat, and hopefully we could meet up in Johor Bahru for more stories.

MY LABUAN GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE

5th JUNE 2022 ~ There was no gastronomic adventure going on when I was in Labuan. One reason, the breakfast buffet lasted the whole day and I was lazy to go food hunting for dinner, especially when my friend cum tourist guide went home in the evening. However, I found this one cafe right behind the hotel when I was walking to the mosque and decided to get some food in between the Maghrib and Isya' prayers.

The name of the place should be Pipe On Corner, based on the writing on the menu.

I had fried rice with beef and fried egg. The food was good and the portion was big but I had to wait for a long time for the rice to be served. Luckily I had time to go back to the mosque for the Isya' prayer.

Now I know where to get dinner when I make a return trip to Labuan, like that is going to happen.
