JOHOR BAHRU SECONDARY SCHOOLS CHESS COMPETITION 2023

The chess competition for secondary schools of Johor Bahru district was back again. As usual, I was there at SMK Mohd Khalid to help the organizing committee with the annual event for 2 days, on 26th to 27th June 2023.

The Chess Team of SMK Dato' Jaafar also took part - sending the boys for the two categories: under 15 and 18.

On the other hand, the other exciting part of this competition was the chance to meet with ex-students and friends/ex-colleagues.

This could be my last official duty during the district level. Hoping I could still go for the state level competition after this with the Johor Bahru Chess Team.

HAVING SUPPER AT NASI LEMAK ASIAH POWER TELUR BUNGKUS

24th JUNE 2023 ~ First of all, that should be the longest name for shop. So my colleagues [of SMK Dato' Jaafar] went there for supper after attending a wedding of a friend.

The specialty of this place should be the Nasi Lemak that was wrapped inside a piece of fried egg. However, I saw many people ordering Asam Pedas too. There were still many people at 10:00 p.m. when we were there,

MY VERDICT: The Nasi Lemak and fried chicken were good but the sambal [chili paste] was not the type that I liked. It was rather thin and runny, and was not ground like it should be done.

The good news is that I have discovered a new eating place in town to take my friends to when they come visiting.

ATTENDING THE WEDDING OF A COLLEAGUE, MR. RAMESHRAAJ MURUGAN

   24th JUNE 2023    ~ A colleague of SMK Dato' Jaafar. Mr. Rameshraaj Murugan held his wedding reception at SJKT Yahya Awal's Hall. We were there at about 9:00 p.m. and there were also other colleagues who had arrived earlier.

It was a grand wedding. There were many people in the hall as well as outside. The place was filled with music and loud drums and people dancing in colourful sarees.

We could not stay too long as the next day would be a working day.

Wishing Mr. Rameshraaj and his wife a happy married life filled with lots of love and joy.

ATTENDING THE WEDDING OF MR. MUHAMMAD ALIFF

I attended the wedding reception of another ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti, Mr. Muhammad Aliff bin Ahmad Sobri. The event was held at Sofea Guest House in Taman Bukit Dahlia, Pasir Gudang.

As usual, there were other ex-students and ex-colleagues who were also present at the same time I was there. There were quite a few meet and selfie  with the fan sessions. 😀

Wishing both the bride and groom a happy married life filled with love and joy.

BREAKFAST WITH FRIENDS FROM PENANG

Puan Aishah Aboo Bakar, an old friend of UPM TESL Class of 1993, and her son were back in town to attend the wedding of her nephew. I picked them up at Senai Airport and took them straightaway to Selera Johor to get breakfast Johor style.

I took her to this place during Deepavali break last year and she was excited to savour the food this food court had to offer again.

There were Mee Rebus Johor, Sup Merah, Kacang Pool, Fried Mushroom and Sate on the table. I asked Mr. Aiman to try Telur Pindang [herbal boild egg] but her mother was not interested to even take a small bite.

It was only a short gathering before I sent them to their relative's house at Mutiara Rini. I was still happy to get to see them over breakfast in town and hope they will come back again some other time for more gastronomic adventure.

I got my specially baked Samprit [traditional
butter cookies] from Penang
