MY MEDAN GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - HAVING "BANDREK" FOR COFFEE BREAK


31st JANUARY 2017 ~ It was a long way from Parapat to Berastagi so we had a short stop at this place called "Simarjunjung  Coffee House". The place looked old from the outside, the kind of place people would not stop if they drove past in the middle of the night.


We were told we had to try "bandrek" - the specialty of this place so I chose Bandrek Coffee. The coffee was mixed with other ingredients like ginger, lemon grass, cinnamon, cloves, and maybe black pepper. The coffee was really spicy which was meant to keep one's warm. The place was located on a high altitude and the temperature was low.








A piece of fried banana was served with "bandrek" which I think was commercialized and overpriced - but that was something common for a tourist.










My tummy was warm alright after having a cup of "Bandrek".
