MY HOMETOWN GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - "SALAI VALLEY"

The venue chosen for lunch today was Salai Valley in Dataran Larkin where everything was smoked - beef, chicken, duck, fish and egg. The restaurant served authentic traditional Minang's/Negeri Sembilan's dish - Lemak Cili Api [coconut milk gravy with birds eye chili].

We were there at about 12:15 p.m. and the restaurant started operation at 12 noon. More people came in by the time we were eating our food, and the place was almost full. Too bad the dining area was quite small so that would not accommodate a huge crowd, especially when we now have to observe the social/physical distancing SOP.

For one thing, they accepted credit cards here and that made me happy already.

THE VERDICT: We both chose Itik Masak Lemak [duck] and the dish was marvelous. The coconut milk gravy was thick and hot, but there was the urge to put more gravy into the plate. The prominent taste of the smoked duck meat was the best of all. I will for sure be coming back to try its Telur Itik Masak Lemak [duck eggs].

Thanks to my ex-schoolmate of SMS Muar, Mr. Mohd. Razib Nordin, who agreed to join me for the gastronomic adventure even though was notified at the last minute.
