REWARD TIME FOR STUDENTS IN MY ENGLISH CLASS AGAIN

It was time to reward the students in my Form 3 English class [of SMK Dato' Jaafar] again. The presents this time went to those who did well in the previous mid term examination and those who managed to complete the tasks given in the Google Classroom.

3 SINUS

GROUP 1: PEOPLE WHO GOT A FOR THE ENGLISH PAPER

GROUP 2: PEOPLE WHO COMPLETED THE GOOGLE CLASSROOM TASKS

3 TANGEN

THE ONE WHO SCORED THE HIGHEST MARK

GROUP 2: PEOPLE WHO COMPLETED THE GOOGLE CLASSROOM TASKS

There should be one more time for the students to get presents from me. I wonder what I have done would motivate them.

THE ENGAGEMENT CEREMONY OF A FRIEND'S SON IN PASIR GUDANG

4th SEPTEMBER 2023     ~ Puan Suriana Ali and her other family members were in town, all the way from Kuantan, for the engagement ceremony of her son at Taman Bukit Dahlia in Pasir Gudang. In a Malay community, it is a tradition for the family of the groom-to-be to pay a visit to the house of the bride-to-be to ask the hands of marriage from the family.

When my friend of UPM TESL Class of 1993 invited me to join her company of relatives from Kuantan, I agreed and even bought a new kurta of the same colour worn by her family members.

This was something I rarely did actually. All this while, it had been attending wedding receptions but not an engagement ceremony where I had to observe the event from the beginning until the end.

There was a short introduction session where the representatives from both sides exchanged "Pantun" [the Malay rhyming verses] before the mother-in-law to be put the ring on the finger of her daughter-in-law to be. Eventually, the couple was officially engaged.

The engagement ceremony looked more like a mini wedding reception and I was impressed with the spread of food served on the buffet tables.

Thank you Puan Suriana Ali and family for kindly asking me to be there at the beautiful ceremony. Hopefully, I will be invited to the grander event that should take place next year, either in Johor Bahru or Kuantan, or both places.

THE CHESS PRACTICE SESSION FOR JOHOR BAHRU TEACHER'S TEAM

4th NOVEMBER 2023    ~ The chess practice for Johor Bahru Teacher's Team was held this morning at Sekolah Rendah Agama Bersepadu in Taman Sri Tebrau. I did not really know whether this was a selection session or just a practice for the team for the upcoming PSKPP tournament in December. I was there just to join the fun.

It was a pleasant surprise to see an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti, who is now a teacher, Mr. Hamzah Hamdan. He used to play chess for the school team last time so it was like yesterday once more.

I had fun there even though I just won 2 games but the most important thing was that I got to meet new people and make new friends, hopefully.

ATTENDING THE WEDDING OF THE SON OF MY CHILDHOOD NEIGHBOUR

The wedding reception today was of the son of my childhood neighbour, people whom I grew up with for many years until they moved to their new house. We, however, still see each other once in a while, especially during Eid celebration, wedding or family gathering [MALAY: kenduri].

The event took place at Bizmilla Wedding Hall at Eko Botani, a place which I am already very familiar by now.

As expected, I managed to meet and greet some people which were related to the mother of the groom.

There were also an ex-colleague of SMK Taman Universiti, the Chief Clerk, and her husband and this was something unexpected.

Thank you Puan Hajah Nazatul-Nisa for the kind thought.

I personally still felt the presence of someone who was not actually there, and he was deeply missed.
