DRAMA IN ENGLISH WORKSHOP IN SCHOOL

A workshop for drama in English was held today in school for the first time. The response was overwhelming but we could only accommodate 50 students for the activity. The form one students had to wait for it to be done again next year then. Both the students and teachers had a lot of fun in the workshop where at the end of it, we had to present scenes from the drama "Rumpelstiltskin".

This was definitely a good exposure for the students where they were able to use the language. Congratulations to everybody who have made this a success.

SPOT THE ERROR 9

It is just a small error that is commonly committed by Malaysian students. An error is still an error. Can you detect it?

SPOT THE ERROR 8

Found this at the counter of a movie theatre in Johor Bahru and I almost fainted reading it. I am praying hard the person who wrote this was not a student I taught in school before.

1FAMILY 1COMPUTER 1MALAYSIA

11th JULY - I am not so sure whether this should be the correct heading but nowadays we tend to put "1" at the front part of every word we use and the last word will always be "1Malaysia". So the people from SKMM (Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia) came to school to distribute the 1Malaysia netbook to students, FOR FREE. How were these students selected? Based on the students' information system where they had earlier provided detail information of themselves, including the parents' income.

They were given BenQ netbooks. One word that I will use to describe the situation: LUCKY. I remember I got my very own laptop was back in 1992 when I managed to buy a second hand computer after working in a KFC restaurant for about three months during my semester break. And the first things I got for myself with the money from my first salary working as a teacher was a personal computer and a printer.

Hopefully, the students will make full use of the computers given which should assist them in their learning process in school or at home.

STEVIE WONDER'S "LATELY" IN ANGKLUNG MODE

My personal favourite, "Lately" by Stevie Wonder
performed during the Farewell Dinner for the retiring Principal
at Pulai Spring Resort on the 1st of July 2011.

Before playing, we saw this song was quite difficult to play by looking at its complicated notes and at the same time, everyone was not familiar with it. But after giving it a try, we quickly fell in love with it. Enjoy!

SPORTS DAY 2011, AT LAST

9th JULY - Finally, the Sports Day was here. In accordance with the Ministry's policies of "Sports for All" and "1Student 1Sports", the school sports day for every school in Malaysia MUST be held on the second half of the year. It was usually done as early as February or March before this. In a way, the enthusiasm and excitement were not at their maximum level and the event was done in such a simple manner. The head of the PTA was invited to officiate the closing ceremony so everything was not a grand event.

Nevertheless, it was a success. Everything was still colourful and everyone was having a great time. It was ended with a happy note. All's well that ends well.

The Kadet Bomba boys won the second place for the marching competition although I did not expect anything out of them. By the way, we had never won this category during Sports Day, not even once and we always blamed the judges for that. There were not enough people in the team in the first place as a few were involved in other events or performance. Congratulations to the team but you are all going to sit for a session of talk on the values of loyalty and commitment.
