PRE-INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION - PART TWO

30th AUGUST 2022 ~ The second gathering took place a few hours before the eve of the National Day. Again, the meeting involved my colleagues and an ex-colleague of SMK Dato' Jaafar over supper or late dinner for someone. The chosen venue was a Mamak restaurant at Taman Damansara Aliff, called Al-Falah.

It would be quite impossible to get many people to come and join the chat session especially at night. And the show must go on. The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 p.m. and hope we could do this again some other time soon.

PRE-INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION - PART ONE

It must have been aeon of years ago since I had coffee and cake right after school and there was this urge to sit down and chat with a friend. Thanks to a colleague [of SMK Dato' Jaafar] who instantaneously agreed to accompany me at San Francisco Coffee at Midvalley Mall even though the invitation was made last minute.

The cake and coffee were delicious and the chat session was great. What a way to celebrate our nation's Independence Day tomorrow, and we will have a one day public holiday.

And there were always people who recognized me and stopped me for autograph and selfie session :)

A short gossip session was always possible regardless of the fact it was held at a busy place where everyone was walking to and from all directions.

One surprising thing was that today was a working day but there were a lot of people at the mall. What was wrong with you people, shouldn't you all be working? :)

The errors spotted when I was in Gemas, an attempt to cross the border into another state, Negeri Sembilan, on the 18th of August, just to see what was happening at the intersection that connects the east and west of the railway tracks of Peninsular Malaysia. Unfortunately, my partner in crime and I couldn't find any.

ATTENDING THE WEDDING RECEPTION OF THE DAUGHTER OF PUAN NORMAWATI ADNAN

27th AUGUST 2022 ~ I decided to attend the wedding reception of the daughter of an ex-colleague of SMK Taman Universiti even though I was a bit hesitant at first. Puan Normawati Adnan and family held the event at Perdana College Hall in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

As usual, there were reunion sessions with other ex-colleagues and ex-students of SMK Taman Universiti.

Congratulations Puan Normawati and family with the new addition to the family. 

It is always a pleasure to get invited and attend events like this. And most of the time, I make it a point to be present.

LAST WEEKEND'S EATING OUT SESSION

20TH AUGUST 2022 ~ The weekend's eating our session took place in Zaituna Restaurant with an ex-student of SMK Taman Universiti, Mr. Afif Farhan Zulkefli. I craved for Arab food and luckily Mr. Afif was kind enough to agree with my choice.

After the rice, came the dessert and was complemented with Arab mint tea.

There were an ex-colleague of SMK Taman Universiti, Mr. Hamzah Ali, with his wife and sons right at the next table.

Someone promised to take me to a seafood restaurant after this and I just could not wait for the time.

MY SEGAMAT GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - WARUNG PAK KASSIM SEKELUARGA

18th AUGUST 2022 ~ The initial plan was to go to Gunung Ledang via the entrance at the resort there but unfortunately, the access was closed to public. Therefore, we had to make a U-turn trip back to Segamat. My partner in crime and I decided to stop by for lunch at this one stall by the road side with many artificial and colourful mushrooms placed outside.

There were many cars and lorries parked on the road shoulder which could be an indicator this place was popular.

If you want to eat lunch with a variety of dishes to choose to be eaten with your rice, this should be the place. The specialty would be its freshwater fish: Ikan Baung but it could be a bit expensive.

And you could also buy a few ferrocement products made by the owner of the stall, Pak Kassim, to bring back home.

The stall can easily be spotted along the way from Segamat to Tangkak by the brightly coloured mushrooms that would attract the drivers and passengers on the road. There would be no way for you to miss this place unless you are sleeping.

MY SEGAMAT GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - AZAM AR MURTABAK

18th AUGUST 2022 ~ We had been passing by this small stall by the roadside at Batu Anam every day and say many vehicles parked on the road shoulder every morning. Only on the third day, we managed to stop by for breakfast to see what made this place, named Azam AR Murtabak, popular.

The stall sold varieties of flat bread/pratha and also Murtabak. We were lucky as we still managed to get the last batch of Murtabak from the hot pan.

It had always been a pleasure to once in a while go on official duty outside school as this was the chance to meet friends and chatted over breakfast/lunch/dinner. It was like the annual event that we were all looking forward too and I would be missing this in a few more years to come.

MY SEGAMAT GASTRONOMIC ADVENTURE - CENDOL SEGAR AMAT

16TH AUGUST 2022 ~ When we arrived in Segamat in the afternoon, it was extremely hot, hence there was a need to quench our thirst. We went out for a short while to get something cold and refreshing and the experienced driver took us to this place called "Cendol Segar Amat", which I think was in Buloh Kasap area, or was it in Batu Anam?

I got my cendol fix while my three other friends had their side dish with it: Rojak and Mee Rojak.

Definitely the place if you are looking for Cendol when you are in this area, and there could be other choices of food as well.
