MAHA ATULAWAIYAN KYAUNGDAWGYI A.K.A ATUMASHI MONASTERY

16th DECEMBER 2019 ~ This was one huge monastery that was built in the 19th century. This place was so huge and I was simply impressed by its size. I found it to be cooler here compared to the high temperature outside. They should make full use of this place as it could accommodate a huge crowd at one time.

INTERESTING FACT: The monastery was burned down in 1890. A 19.2 carat diamond adorning a Buddha statue disappeared in the incident.

And there was no furniture at all inside this hall.

This was the basement, for common people. Royalties and monks would occupy the upper floor.

I was glad to see other unique structure that was different from the pagodas and temples that we had gone in and out during the 4-day stay in Myanmar.
