BOOK REVIEW - DAVID NICHOLLS' "ONE DAY"

The book told the story of one falling in love with someone but got married to someone else. Dexter and Emma were college friends who in a way had a crush with each other but they remained just to be good friends.

The first main character was Dexter - a TV presenter, playboy-ish in nature. After having quite a number of affairs, he finally settled down, got married to Sylvie which was definitely a mistake and from the marriage, baby Jasmine was born. Dexter did not do well in his career on TV so he had to do something else, both he and Sylvie were obviously not happy and they were divorced after that. And Dexter went to Paris to meet his friend.

The second character was Emma. After college, she worked with a children's theatre and at the same time managing a small restaurant while living together with Ian. Then she opted out and became a teacher and even had an affair with the headmaster. When things did not work as planned, she went to Paris and continued her dream to become a writer which she did successfully. And in Paris, Emma was reunited with Dexter again and they finally tied the knot once they went back to London.

But still, their marriage life was not as easy as it should be. Nevertheless, they worked hard to make things better. As I was expecting a happy ending to the story, it was ended too abruptly when Emma was killed in an accident. And this had made life to be harder for Dexter and all this happened because of one word: OBSESSION. Oh how I hate an ending like that, don't we have enough misery in our life already? *getting emotional*

And suddenly I remember this song sung by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat which in a way describes a bit of the love story between Dexter and Emma.

"Lucky"
(feat. Colbie Caillat)

Do you hear me,
I'm talking to you
Across the water across the deep blue ocean
Under the open sky, oh my, baby I'm trying
Boy I hear you in my dreams
I feel your whisper across the sea
I keep you with me in my heart
You make it easier when life gets hard

I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
Ooohh ooooh oooh oooh ooh ooh ooh ooh

They don't know how long it takes
Waiting for a love like this
Every time we say goodbye
I wish we had one more kiss
I'll wait for you I promise you, I will

I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
Lucky we're in love every way
Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday

And so I'm sailing through the sea
To an island where we'll meet
You'll hear the music fill the air
I'll put a flower in your hair
Though the breezes through trees
Move so pretty you're all I see
As the world keeps spinning round
You hold me right here right now

I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
I'm lucky we're in love every way
Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday

Ooohh ooooh oooh oooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooooh ooooh oooh oooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
[*NOTE: I hope it is legal to do this]
