CAMBODIA-VIETNAM FRIENDSHIP MONUMENT

15th AUGUST 2019 ~ Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Monument was erected in Botum Park which was near the Royal Palace. It was to commemorate the alliance between the Cambodian and Vietnamese to overthrow the Khmer Rouge. There were statues of Vietnamese and Cambodian soldiers representing the authority in power and a woman with her baby symbolizing civilians.

Other than a park for recreational purposes, Botum Park was a popular spot for political rally.

There were a few young men playing football and two policemen when I was there. That was all. I had the park to my own that morning.

I tried the coconut drink sold by a man on a three-wheeler pulled by a bicycle. The whole coconut water went into the glass containing ice. There was no sugar added so it was pure coconut water which was not sweet. This should be a good isotonic drink for health, in such a hot and sunny day. You could find people selling coconut water around town.

There were trees around the park so they provided shades for me to sit under and get some rest after all the long hours of walking. I wonder whether there would be a lot of people in the afternoon after work here as the place was quite huge for people to relax and unwind after work.
