SHOPPING TIME IN BATU

26th JULY 2025    ~ After dinner in Malang, and before checking in at the hotel, we went for a short shopping trips at two places in Batu. Batu is a small city not as popular as other bigger cities in Indonesia, and here is a piece of interesting information about this place:
"Batu, officially the City of Batu is a city in the East Java Province of Indonesia. It is about 20 km to the northwest of Malang. Formerly, it was a part of Malang Regency; but in June 2001, Batu became an independent city (by Act No. 11 of 2001), with its own mayor and council."

The first shopping place we went to is called Kirangan. a two-storey building which was modern and would be appealing to both the local and foreign visitors. The place offered all sorts of items that could be bought as souvenirs and I just loved the t-shits sold here. I managed to get a few to bring back home.

The second place we went to was Brawijaya, another big 2-storey shopping building. There were food items sold here and I remember buying Tempe [fermented soya bean], Salak [Snake Skin] fruit  and Apple chips.

Everyone in the group got something to bring home during the first round of shopping trip and there definitely would be more.

CROSSING THE ROAD TO GET TO PADANG BESAR WAREMART

20th DECEMBER 2024    ~ When you think the shopping spree at the main complex at Padang Besar was already over, then you are wrong. We then went to another spot across the road, heading to Padang Waremart. This is because my ex-colleague cum tourist guide wanted to buy a big wok for her house from that place.

There were again many stalls selling almost the same thing with those at the previous complex we had visited earlier.

Once the mission was accomplished, we were ready to meet another friend who is now residing in Perlis but the lunch date was about to happen in Kedah.

THE SHOPPING SESSION AT PADANG BESAR, PERLIS

20TH DECEMBER 2024    ~ After the slight disappointment at Nat Market [farmer's market], we then decided to venture a bit further to get to Padang Besar. There was needs to buy something to bring back home and this place should be a good option.

Basically, what you could get in Southern Thailand [particularly Hatyai which is very popular among Malaysian shoppers], you could buy them here in Padang Besar. The price might be slightly expensive, but considering the time traveling, the hassle to go through the Immigration as well as the cost for fuel or transportation fares, Padang Besar should be a good option.

The shopping complex had been upgraded and after renovation, the place looked new, clean, modern and more organized.

There were not many people when we arrived, which was good news. It was still a working day in many states in Malaysia and the school break had not yet started.

I was happy as I would not be going home empty-handed and I don't mind coming back to this place to shop if I am to travel up north again.
